You need about 6-8" of unported barrel to get maximum velocity and/or accuracy. Anything else is extra. You can't shoot farther with a longer barrel, nor is it necessarily more accurate. However, longer barrels do often affect efficiency; it takes more gas to push a paintball out of a longer tube, especially if it is heavily ported.

The main reason you see a lot of tournament players using long barrels is that you can push them into airball bunkers and still be able to shoot, which lets you play tighter to the bunker. Thats the only real advantage of a long barrel.

Most people sight down a longer barrel faster and they think the barrel must be more accurate. That's why you get all these people saying longer barrels are more accurate.

It is the length's effect on the user, not the longer barrel.

I would reccomend 10" to 16" because in that range it's all personal preference.
