You actually want to sit and hear 8 minutes of of a gun shooting? I just don't believe you and our youtube analytics agree with me, back when we didn't speed up the efficiency tests, we lost the majority of our viewers during the tests. Hence the new style and now, people watch our video for longer(though our overall production value is higher as well which hopefully contributes to it).

Also if you are going to quote me, you might as well finish the quote.

"If we could find a solid way to accurately record the sound of the marker, which is harder then you think, we would consider it. In the case of this video, the mics we were using were not up to the task, so rather then give a misleading answer, I opted to strip the audio(in regards to the play footage)."

I have no problem defending our methodology nor creative choices. In fact we may be looking at ways to record accurate marker sound, but gear costs money so we have to be judicious about where we spend it.

Lol some people are just ungrateful. They aren't charging for these videos, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

I honestly do like criticism and consider most of it, but we also reserve the right to do what we think best. Our videos have come a long way since Russ and myself have been working on them and have an even longer way to go.

This is an extremely good point, and most people are unaware.

The majority of microphones available have built in compensation software, to make quiet things loud enough to hear and loud things quiet enough to be pleasant. To further complicate things, each microphone has a different frequency response - meaning they never record true sound. This all ignores the fact that microphone placement and immediate environment also has a huge impact on how the mic picks up sound. And to make it an even BIGGER problem, every end-user has a different set of speakers with their own frequency response and loudness compensation software. And there's probably an additional level of problems regarding compression losses in the audio algorithm.

At the end of the day it is just not possible to convey an accurate representation of sound signature through a youtube video, even for comparative purposes.

I would strongly advise anyone against using youtube videos - or videos of any kind, for that matter - to get even a hint of what a gun (or barrel, or whatever) will sound like on the field. You might get lucky in the way all the distortions work out from time to time, but more often than not it'll just be misleading.

would be cool to add decibel meter readings just to know which markers are truely louder than others.

You could always show the gun firing for 60 seconds or so and then speed it up, derp.

I posted a link to the section where you can post paintball videos.. This isn't really news. In fact, there are already news threads about the geo3.5. You can probably even post in those threads...

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
  3. If you don't like something, say why instead of just calling it ugly, lame, gay or any other name. If it is old, simply post a link or report the post with a link to the older News thread.
  4. Please don't post links for places to buy items. That encourages stores, sponsored players and other people to do it and spam the site.
If you have questions, please post them in the Talk to Mods/Admins forum.
