You must have MS Word. I suggest right-clicking and saving the target. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you.

just lets them know that the tank and gun you are carrying is for a paintball tournament and explains all this other stuff. it also give the airport person a phone number for further questions (well... atleast i think it has that). and i believe that about sums it up from what i can remember about it..

Guys,

That letter, while it was a genuine attempt to offer assistance, did very little to help people get through any airline woes they may encounter.

All it did was give players something else to gripe at me about when it did not sway airline personels opinion of what could or could not be taken on a plane.

That is why it was removed.

In other words - it didn't help you guys, and it caused me headaches. So it was removed.

Thanks for Clearing that up Lane.
Also, do you think it'd be wise for us to write up our own notes explaining what the luggage contains?

Thanks

I hate to say this because it will come back to haunt me, but...

I have flown probably 500 times with my gear, and only had one incident where it was a problem, and even then it was solved rather quickly.

I know things have changed drastically since 9-11, and admittedly I haven't flown with gear nearly as much post 9-11.

But, I still believe the best advice is to call ahead and get someone to OK your flying with your gear. If you get a good response from someone with authority, see if they can email or fax you something. It may not completely work with the security people, but it is better than nothing. Then disassemble your tank, if you can. Carry a paintball magazine in your gear bag. And lastly, don't announce to the world that you are carrying things that some airport people think are not allowed.

And, the safest thing to do, is pack your gun and air-tank in a box, and UPS it to your hotel. It may cost you $20-25, but it sure beats getting to an event and not having your most important gear.

We are trying to get someone with the FAA to write a blanket statement that will give us an outline of what is acceptable to travel with, how to make other things acceptable, as well as be available for players to present to the security people. So far, that isn't happening quickly.

I wish that I had a good answer for everyone, but I don't. Different airlines operate under different standards. Different airport agents have different standards. And some people involved say different things on different days or to different people. But, UPS always says - give us your money and we'll get your stuff there. lol

Thanks for your help, Lane. I'm sure all of us here appreciate it. I'll take your suggestions in stride. Sounds great on the FAA Statement. Be sure to post any news on that when it arrives.

Peace, and see yall in LA!

If somebody will promise to post a working link, email me with the button below and I'll email the letter back to you. Keep in mind what Lane said though, this letter is not a cure all for airlines. Blame the airline, not Lane.
Good Luck in LA.
