GOOD British Authors
I need a British author, or more exactly a good book by a British author, so that I can have an intresting enough topic for my senior paper. It HAS to be British, the title of the class is Survey of British Lit. I think Irish may also fly, but British primarily.
I've come up with A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.

First of all, The Christmas Carol is more of a novela, kinda short. Dickens is a very boring author, I've read a few things by him (not many, but a few). I'd also prefer one a tad more compelling...

He is implying that he needs a book of literary merit--not a 500+ page version of See Spot Run. That goes for the both of you.
My contribution: 1984, by George Orwell. Its a negative-utopian novel, and one of the best ever written.

I hate you, I had an author in mind that I had read recently and absolutely loved his work, he was British, had won a few awards or other and as soon as I read a few names off your list I forgot what I was thinking of. Damn you to hell

Perdido Street Station - China Meville
Really neat book set in a weird kind of world with steam powered robots, a government that genetically engineers or adds machinery to convicted criminals and these bats that feed on peoples dreams while they sleep and then eat their consciousnesses. Fantastically interesting read and as I said, won a few awards as well.
