Tadao Released LED Modules for Dim OLED boards

This is a great move forward by Will in restoring the damaged reputation of his company. While it still looks look like dim boards will still not be covered under their "lifetime warranty" it does appear these retrofits are being sold at or below cost. It's great to see a company still supporting their products that have been out of production for several years.

Quote:
This LED Conversion board replaces the OLED screen mini-board on certain Yakuza USB Series models. Combined with a new software revision, this effectively turns the board into an Ebisu series, showing board status with a multi-color LED. If your board has USB, it also allows settings changes and firmware updates through the Tengu USB interface.

At this time only USB models are supported:
  • Yakuza Series USB Autococker
  • Yakuza Series USB Ego 9/10/11 & Geo 2
  • Yakuza Series USB Ego 7/8 & Geo
  • Yakuza Series USB Marq/Vice/Victory
  • MacDev Clone/RX USB boards which were previously upgraded to full Yakuza Series firmware

ETA for non-USB support is August, 2014.

Oh the irony, lets upgrade a $180 OLED board to LED.

My thoughts exactly. So I pay $180 for an oled use it for a year and a half the thing goes dim, you then tell me send it in and I'll give you an led... Sketch. I appreciate you trying to help but come on now. I buy and sell a lot of guns and I would rather have a dim oled that I can barely read than a led board in the gun but that's just me and customers

Oh and this is why virtue won between the 2 of them lol

Complain all you like, but at least those with bad oled boards can get something out of them.

YESSSS. I have two or three Yakuza boards in my 2k5 intimidators and they still work, but the screens are dead.

This is made to fix exactly that and I am extremely glad to see Tadao doing this. I was just talking with a tech the other day and we were both complaining about how the boards would be dead in the water otherwise.

Whether the tadao yakuza now-LED (lol) or virtue LED boards are a better choice though? That depends what features you care about, but that is also not the purpose of this thread.

+1 for Tadao supporting older products. Other paintball companies need to do the same.

Thank you Tadao for doing this. I have a non-USB Yakuza Series Victory board so keeping my fingers crossed for an update in August.

It's not an upgrade. It's fixing a problem that cannot be otherwise resolved.

The OEM that produced the OLED modules made poor quality components and now no longer produces/provides that part. They went bad. Tadao can't get replacement components. Tadao produced a viable solution so people wouldn't have useless boards.

Yeah, it sucks, but it's the best that could be done.

My Yakuza Alias still turns on, but the screen is dead and the gun is for reason in permanent eye bypass mode. Huge bummer. I would love to get it working again

I have had some quite upset players, I sent them to Virtue now that some of their LED's are on sale for $52.50, so this costs less than that.
It is hard to make enough money to keep a small paintball company going, and sometimes a company can't afford to just replace everything that goes wrong - forever.
There are very few paintball companies now, compared to 10 or 15 years ago. If it was all about the money there would be even less. So while it may cost you a few dollars and may not be an OLED, I'm guessing that it's this or one less player in the world of paintball options.

Then do not offer a lifetime warranty. The warranty is part of what I bought when I paid $180 for a new OLED (NOT LED) board.

Frankly this only adds salt to the wound for me. Taking the time to create this after telling your customers that there screwed only upsets me more. I do not see the wisdom in spending time to recover customers you have already alienated (no pun intended) with an inferior fix to a factory flaw. Then having the audacity to charge for it, I guess that is one business model.

Already dumped all my Tadao products and will NEVER buy anything from them again.

Talk about a day late and a dollar short.

Lifetime is lifetime of the product, not lifetime as in human lifetime anyway.

Electronics are usually deemed to have a lifetime of 5 years, so in all honesty, quit whinging.

So if they release a product with a lifetime warranty and then scrap it a year later your warranty is void? Seems logical...

IMO making it right means giving us what we paid for. Is this a step in the right direction? Sure, but if I wanted an led I would've stuck with stock or paid much less for a led board.

At this point I'll likely get my five boards fixed and then sell them to recoup what I paid for Virtue boards.

It's not Tadao's fault they can't fix OLED screens. The OLED manufacturer bailed out so there's nothing Tadao can do without new screens.

Even if you consider this a 'downgrade' from your OLED, it's still an 'upgrade' from a board with no visual display at all.

+1.

Tadao is more involved in other industries outside of paintball nowadays, so I give them a lot of credit for looking back at this industry and doing what they could.
