Question Big Guy (overweight) returning to PB after 8 years

Played airball back in 2005-2007...stopped as I got married, blah blah blah.
Well, I am 6'4" 350. I am a large guy, but not cumbersome. I can still move around without issues. I played college baseball, so am fairly athletic.

I am looking to get back into the sport. I was always a back man, as I was never the fastest guy. Im not a woods ball or rec player...just dont enjoy it.

My question is-has the sport evolved to the point where its not friendly to larger overweight guys in the competitive side? Do I need to lose weight before trying to play again? Am I going to get made fun of for trying to come out and play again?

Im 27, have the money to fully support the sport, finally. And now ahve the time. I was going to use this as exercise as well-so I know I am going to lose weight as I play in the hot midwest sun.

Looking for honest answers. Thanks

Im a big guy 5"10 300 and i play a lot of tournaments through out the year as well as work at a large paintball retailer. If you keep on it playing weekends and eating right you will. Its still big guy friendly for back players even d side. I play almost every day and ive shed some pounds already.

I see people playing deep into their 40's. So at 27 you'll be fine

There are lots of big guys playing, you'll be fine. Your height might be an advantage and paintball can just be another way to exercise and get rid of some of that marriage weight. Welcome back!

I'm 270 with bad knees. No speedball for me, strictly woodsball. Age? HA! I'll be 50 next April. Played a mil-sim recently and met a guy aged 67!

350 might seem like a lot, but for 6'4" you don't sound too heavy. Paintball is definitely GREAT excercise to help lose some weight, too. Just make sure you don't drink beers and eat pizza between points haha, you want to keep up that calorie deficit.
I don't see paintball as being particularly disadvantageous towards larger players. The only problem I could see would be running from bunker to bunker quickly if you ever get into a situation where you need to make a move. Even though you may be agile, a .5 oz paintball traveling at 300 FPS will always beat a 300 lb man running at maybe five mph.

Paintball players comes in all shapes and sizes now and days, as long as you can shoot and clutch as much as you can. you're good to go, I was watching college paintball one day and there was a player who was really heavy set and he could care less about his size. He kept up with everyone else. And don't worry about age, I've met players who were 70 still gunning with their grand kids. Welcome back and have fun.

I played a game against a sixty + year old who had a pump and he still shot me out in a snap fight.

There was a guy just like you named bubba bingo and he hung out with all the competitive players. He was one. He also had a custom jersey. I think you are fine.

I'm 28, 6'5" and when I started playing again in the last year I was 310lbs. I had no issues bro, and it has gotten me down to 280 as of now! Diet change has helped too though but this is basically my only cardio.

It helps to be smaller, but its not necessary. Anybody can be good a paintball as long as you put the work into it. You can edge, run and gun, basically anything as a back player.

One thing to say to that - though I have no idea what height and weight he is, Dave Bains is not a small guy. However, he has 6 titles to his name. He's not superman sliding into snake, or barrel rolling behind doritos, but he's playing and playing well. And also carrying like a case of paint everytime but that's beside the point.
I'm at 5'10" and 240 and paintball right now is my actual exercise/hobby/sport of choice. Its how I get outside and get some cardio and what not since I despise the gym. I can't keep up with the guys who can sprint here and there and slide around and stuff, but I can keep up with the game. so can you big dude. And I say big dude in an endearing way. Just watch that become "somewhat big dude" as you play more paintball.

Like you, I played college baseball and am also considered "overweight". I'm 5' 10" 235 lbs and I'm here to tell you that you can be big and play. If you know what your doing, you don't need to be a stick figure. I also use paintball as an exercise and its the most fun way to stay in shape! Heck I'd play with you!

To be honest, the sport hasn't really changed at all in the last 8 years, except to get less popular.

One of the best players in paintball right now is a giant Dave Bains. If you got the skill and knowledge to perform then size doesnt matter. As a back player though you have to lay down like 2x as much paint per match and be good at keeping your lanes held down

So does that mean that if you're bigger you should expect to spend more on paint?=p
