Spyder Fenix

Hello everyone. I've looked up multiple threads on the Spyder Fenix, and there aren't that many but with the ones I've seen, it seems people aren't too fond of it. I'm just curious as to why. It's like the cheapest electric marker on the market. Obviously that means it's not the best, but it's better than any mechanical marker right? Basically, I'm not wanting to spend much over a $100 to get back into the sport (I used to play years ago). I was thinking about getting a used one, but is there something nicer that I should get that isn't much more or what? Thanks for any answers.

I think Spyder's are honestly some of the best markers in paintball. They are workhorses, they will shoot in the mud or rain and most of em will shoot if you don't keep em lubed up/cleaned. They're great for people who are just getting into the sport or just looking to play recreational a few times a year. I would look into the electric trigger frames; it gives you multiple choices for firing modes (semi, 3 shot burst, full auto), and there tends to be a little higher quality parts throughout the whole gun.

I started with a Tippmann 98 Custom 9 years ago; but I'd say 90% of my friends and 95% of the kids that I started playing with all started with Spyders...and boy was I jealous!! haha hope this helps you in your decision! feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

I do not own one, but you can probably get 10-12 balls per second on semi. Maybe 15 on full auto? but i don't know for sure. I would think it would chop a lot of balls if you tried anything above 13bps. They're not really meant to shoot a lot of balls per second...they focus more on accuracy.

The fenix is cheaper because it's an electro-mechanical. That means it's a mechanical gun that has a solenoid actuator pull the trigger for you. So compared to an electro-pneumatic it's going to use more air, louder, not as smooth.
That being said, it's a great cheap gun. Another one to look at would be the Azodin Blitz

Thank you! I will definitely look up the blitz. I've just been playing using rentals for a while, and I want something that can shoot fast for speedball or at least fast enough to keep up a little.

I had one. The trigger was magnetic, but it locked back and forth. Meaning that there was essentially two positions, firing and not. You can't really use it with two fingers. It does have a ramp psp and millennium mode. It was an okay marker. It defiantly served me well until I was ready to upgrade. I would take it over something like a Tippman 98 any day.

If you're looking to get back into the sport for cheap just look on here or on ebay for an old used spyder imagine, e99, AMG, electra, etc. You can find them for less than $50 shipped pretty often and as stated before, they are workhorses and can be difficult to break. I have a pump cocker with t2 internals, ccm pump, slider trigger and cp reg among other things and still use a spyder imagine I got in like 2005 on days I don't want to use the pump and it always performs well. As far as bps, I wouldn't really concern myself with it. I've always felt that was one of the most overrated thing in the sport today.

I think the enmey is just a mechanical marker. I would say the blitz is better because of that. If you want an elecytric gog around that, get a extcy.

eNMEys are purely mechanical, but they are also spool valves and don't use a sear, so they shoot nicely and have a nice trigger pull. At least that's what I've heard and it makes sense considering the design.

eXTCys are the elctro-pneumatic version of eNMEys. They shoot plenty fast (iirc stock board maxes out at 20 bps) and also pretty smooth. The downside is that they require more frequent (cleaning and relubing after each day of play, ideally) maintenance than Spyders.

If you're technically-inclined, I'd get an eXTCy. If not, a Spyder.

My suggestion is to save up about 3-400 and find a used mid grade marker or an older high end marker. You can snag an '09 Ego or Geo for anywhere in that price range. I have an '09 Geo that I got for 310 used. It's still working like a champ.

The Spyder is definitely a work horse and great for rec players, but if you're looking to get into the speedball scene you'll need a little more speed and precision out of your marker.

Not sure what spyder you're shooting, but they have a lack-luster rep for a reason.

All markers are either mechanical or electro-mechanical.

GoG enmey is more comparable to a KD/KDII

I say save up the few extra bucks and get a used Proto Rail PMR 2011, you will be much happier.

I would also recommend saving up a bit more for a better marker. You can find some awesome deals on high-end gear if you look. You could probably find a killer DM/PM, Timmy or maybe a Gen 1 Marq or a number of other greatly superior designs for a little more.

I see problems with Spyders at my field frequently.
