When you are putting the mag back together, do it the opposite way you were doing it before. Start with the piece you were putting on top before, on the bottom as the base piece

Only thing I can think of is you're pinching the cable or the winding mechanism isn't completely seated on the pins and the button isn't getting depressed properly, idk just spitballin

i think you may be right about the button.
i can push the button sometimes and it would go down like it normally would BUT it wouldnt release the spring.
idk, i havent really taken the time to open it up and poke around.

It does sound like you pinched something or screws too tight. I had a little trick is use. I had an old used for sale sign that was really thin plastic, I cut a piece about an inch bigger then the mag in all directions. I start with the half that holds the winder. Put everything in on that side including the collar. Then put that thin piece of sign you just cut on top and put a little pressure on the spring to flatten it out so it sits into place. While holding that all together grab your other half and set into place with the plastic sandwiched in there. Now pull out the plastic toward the bottom of the mag while keeping slight pressure on the top half and WALA. Your mag should be back together and no pinched wire or spring. Took me a couple of time to get it down smooth, but once it did cleaning was soooooo much easier and didn't have a problem with sticky releases anymore.
