I think you hear a lot about BMW's needing work since most people that own them don't baby them. They ride the **** out of them. Especially any of the "adventure" style bikes

automag is right, but I have heard racers complain of issues with the S1000RR. I'd imagine the maintenance is between something from the big 4 and the likes of Ducati. Repsol rep Fireblades are the exact same bike as the normal paint jobs, but they cost more.

the s1000 had issues with cam lobes or something when they first came out but they were recalled with BMW and IIRC the fix was a new motor or a new top end.

Other than that I can't imagine there is more than oil changes and valves checks which is the same as any bike.

yeah the "repsol" is just fairings and paint. nothing more. However the new 1000rr does have a special edition with comes fully loaded with ohlins, bremos etc for a heafier price tag.

I haven't been able to find prices anywhere, how much is a "heftier" price tag for the 1000? What about the 650?

looks like the 1000RR SP will set you back 17 large. no idea what a normal RR goes for or a 600

Compare the maintenance schedules of the S1000RR to its competitors... I dob't believe it is any different, it's not like that engine is drastically different anyway. For a Kawasaki Z1000 they need to inspect valve clearances at 14,500, I am looking at 18,000 for my S1000. The rest is all the same. Even the new Ducati's won't need top end service til later now.

That's a lot of bones to pay for a paint job lol

Idk, I only bring this up because
1. curious
2. discussion
3. I might be coming into money

However much I get, I'll divide it up so I can spend a little, and put the rest into a CD or something.

Ideally, if I got 50k (for example), I'd buy a new bike (nothing local to me is anything good and worth purchasing used, lots of people here abuse their bikes you see it on the thruway, 287, etc), a nicer helmet, and maybe throw a slip on exhaust on if I felt the need... Throw the rest into something to make moar moneys. I think that's fairly appropriate

2500is towards the high end for a bandit.

Mine is a 600. Not what i would call a "nice" bike. Its a bike that says "yo im here to **** **** up." It is the honeybadger of motorcycles. Great inexpensive tourer or hooligan machine. Dated but reliable and simplistic technology. Inexpensive, not fantastic at anything other than maybe wheelies.

Being that that are kind of dated looking but still reliable, I'd throw hard bags on it and use it as a sport tourer. Maybe even go for the trifecta with the top box.

They make you pay for test rides? Because of putting wear on the bike?

oh also I'm just making this offer

not sure if you guys want, but I rent a mumble server

So if you guys are interested, you can talk in there about bikes

what is mumble, you might ask?

it's like teamspeak. or in more simple terms, skype without video conferencing. and it doesn't eat up massive amounts of bandwidth

so lemme know if you guys are interested
it'll fit 10 people

You don't have to pay for test rides, but if they know you're serious about buying and have money it'll be easier to get a test ride.
