Newbie to paintball has a hopper question

Hi all,

Trying to slowly get into speedball (all I've played is woodsball with my mechanical tippmann lol) and went to the used store looking for markers.

While no markers that interested me were there, there was a hopper that I had some questions about. It looked like it was in excellent shape (looked almost brand new.) The hopper LOOKED like an Empire Scion however when I called back I talked to someone who had no idea what was going on and informed me it was a Empire Magna Drive Loader. I have no idea what this is, and when I did some research it showed some older (see: 6ish years) hoppers. The thing definitely did not look six years old.

Just wondering if anyone can give me some insight?

Yeah, it's an older loader. They were decent when set up right, but they sit really far back on the marker which is a preference thing.

It does look like it is in good shape. How much are they asking for it? What is your budget? We can get you pointed in the right direction.

I talked them down to $50 if I take it. I don't really have a budget, I am an adult with a good job. That being said, I am just looking for a cheaper hobby (what a hobby to pickup) and something to do that's pretty active. I think that spending this kind of money is good for now, eventually I will be upgrading. I like having extra stuff as I have lots of friends that would like to come out and play but don't own gear.

We have no local field where I live.

50 bucks for a magna is waaaayyy too much. Look for a used z2 or rotor...you can get em for around that price and you won't need to upgrade later.

Ditto. Look around online for a used z2 or rotor. Not too hard to find a rotor for $90 and a z2 for even cheaper.

I don't know what the going rate for a Magna is but I agree with the others that $50 seems high. There are a ton of sub $100 hoppers in the BST threads. I would suggest looking around as much as you can before buying anything.

I'd just like to point out that I am Canadian and getting people to ship from here is very hard and often costs me 30+ dollars.

I doubt you'll get a Z2 for 50. Maybe around 65-80

Prophecy, Rotor, Z2, Spire, or even a normal pinokio

Pay whatever extra it takes.

Prophecy and Pinokio should be cheapest. Rotor around 90, Z2 around 90. I recommend a Z2 but all of these will make you a lot happier than the Magna.

To ship to canada it should cost an extra 10 bucks at most, the majority of the time.

I have no idea why when someone asks about a hopper, all anyone on these forums will say is either Z2 or Rotor. Look, I have a Z2...I love it, it's great. If you find one cheap, buy it. You know what else is pretty darn good too, though? A halo...I run two of them as loaners when I bring friends with me. You can buy them for as little as $30 here on pbn (not counting shipping to Canada), and they run just fine.

I have no experience with the Magna, but if you're just getting in and testing the waters, why would you pay over twice as much for one of the "it" hoppers when a halo will work just fine?

If you like the look of the Magna, buy it, I'm sure it'll run just fine. If you're just going out for rec play every now and again then you're probably not going to need a hopper that can empty itself out in under ten seconds.
