Of course I have an arsenal of different set ups, rigs and techniques i'm using to target different fish. When I start catching, and they don't they'll claim I gave them a "bad rod" and that i'm using the "good rod" then i'll tell them to use whatever they want that I have out there, and i'll use what I gave them. Usually, I'll end up catching a bunch on the same light spinning outfit I gave them, and they will birds nest the crap out of my conventionals the first time they try to cast it.
for sure. im taking her and her boyfriend out next week and showing them the ropes. i pretty much taught myself everything i know outside some basic fly fishing (thanks dad). most people think fishing is just sitting and waiting and dont understand there is a ton of skill and knowledge involved

went to the same place tonight before the gym for an hour. 5 LMB, 6 smallies. man, river LMB (in rapids, fished eddies) are such limp dick fish compared to smallies. i also hooked into a MASSIVE buffalo. this ****er had to be around 35 lbs. i actually hooked a bunch of line it was caught in and managed to land it about half an hour later. one of the most fun fishing experiences i have had in a long time and it is always rewarding to remove a bunch of hooks that an epic beast stole from other anglers. i untangled the fish and let it go on his way. it was almost 3 feet long and ive never seen a more girthy fish in my life. when it jumped the first time i almost pooped my pants haha.

And screw conventional reels. I cant cast those worth a damn.

Was hoping to go out tomorrow morning right at sunrise but its supposed to rain so ill just have to wait until monday. O well, give me time to adjust my kayak more and I cant drink tonight without fearing a hangover while fishing.
When you have two people of equal skill, yah, it goes to luck.
But there's a lot of skill in fishing. For instance on the bridges I fish at there are always HUGE tarpon right next to the bridge and most people don't even know see them there, and some that do try and try to hook up with them, but if you don't know how to present the bait to them, they won't hit it. If you do, you can get hook up after hook up.

Even in freshwater theres certain things i've learned about when x bait technique doesn't work, try y technique, and that's stuff I learned simply from trial and error. Where as someone who doesn't really know will try one bait/retrieve and assume that there just isn't any fish.

trout fishing is way more skill than luck. you are usually sight fishing something that is incredibly spooky and very picky when it comes to the offering. pretty much goes for all fly fishing but trout take the cake

Freshwater I will try a bait or technique for 20-30 casts and if I don't get a hit ill try something else. If I get a couple hits but no hook ups I change color until I start catching them.

Trout suck. Plain and simple. It's like a chess match. You check out what's hatching and watch the water. Are the fish rising? You reach for the dry box. What's hatching and approximate size? Lets go with a bwo #22. You see what looks like a few fish rising on the far pool. You set yourself up and get ready for the cast, make a perfect reach cast to the fish. It drifts by where they are rising just before they rise. Son of a *****. Rinse and repeat, to get the timing right. Finally on the 5th cast you get a swirl! Did it go for it and miss? Is it a bad fly? Did it see your leader? Was it the right fly? Now they aren't rising. So you sit and wait. Finally they start rising, so you take another shot with your bwo. Another reach cast and no takers.

You didn't see it but a guy was watching, and comes over to ask if he can fish with you. It's a small stream and you've seen this guy before. Not a problem, so he gives it a go. First cast he hooks up with a huge brown. You look at his fly, and it's bwo, probably 14. They were looking for bigger flies.

**** those stupid fish. I don't have the patience for 'em.

well caught a bowfin smallmouth fishing yesterday, pretty big one too. i thought i snagged a log or soemthing since i could mvoe whatever i hooked into but it was not really fighting back. eventually got it in and had to attempt to remove the treble WITH OUT any sizable plyers (again was expecting only bass). yea, that was not fun. i had to shove a stick in its mouth and leverage the hook out, no way im sticking my hand in that blender of teeth. a few teeth caught my finger and cut it a little but i came out alright.

I'm enjoying not having one at the moment. Feels great but wish I had a career. Allows me to fish at the moment so I guess that's good. Went fishing this morning, hooked into the largest bass I ever would have caught but it jumped and broke the line. Didn't realize how big it was until it jumped, Would have to say it was about 5-6 lbs. I almost cried but that was a reminder I should upgrade my line from 4 lb mono.

Been fishing a bit, tons of house work. All the projects that I put off because it was winter are getting done. I gotta get 'em done, get the lawn looking good, mulch and the whole deal. Going to clear out some more land I got soon for firewood and to make more space for a garden.

I been getting down to the lake a bit, a few smallies, a few walleye. Nothing exciting. Mainly overtime and house work. Oh and I have some plumbing to do. **** me.

Kenny, I hear the stripers are in. We should really get out there. They are turning on right now.

Just got back home from the beach on Saturday after being gone for a week. Got engaged while I was down there but now that I'm back home I'm working 12 hour shifts Monday-Wednesday night off Thursday and Friday and then working Saturday through next Tuesday. Well, time off was fun while it lasted lol. Hoping to do some fishing on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday if I can get away with it. I did manage to get some time in with my lure making and made up some nice looking green pumpkin red beavers and baby brush hogs today along with some "West Point Special" lizards I make for my uncle.

I've been hearing good reports the past week. I've yet to ever go to target stripers. did land one late last summer from the beach. Was drinking more than fishing though haha

I was already dead inside, no big deal lol. I'll have some free time Thursday and Friday to fish but of course the weather is going to go from being in the mid to high 80's back down into the mid 60's to low 70's. What the **** Alabama weather?

Work until 830a. Figure I'll go home, sleep a little then take the kayak out.
Also thinking of going out tomorrow night for a while

Hopefully the cold front doesn't completely ruin the fishing and I can still manage a few fish. If not, I'm going to be do ****ing ill.

aaand the kayak fishing plan just went out the window.
I pulled something in my groin playing softball yesterday, but didnt bother me too much, and kept playing. well at work last night, constant lifting, squatting and moving made it 10x worse. peddling the hobie would not be very pleasant

i think any fishing outside lakes and ponds that are not part of a river system are ruined for a while here...

there is supposed to be a dam there. the water was up 8-10ft when i took that. if you remember hearing about a bunch of glue heads trying to blow up a bridge in north east ohio last year, this is where they tried it. the culvert above the "dam" is used to let water into the erie canal, this place is historic bros.

I've been MIA for a while. Been super busy and the AC in our house just quit. Getting a new one installed today. Talk about sucking balls.
