Ben, is it too much to ask for a shooting video that compares the Shaft 4 and this?

No, it's already been asked. I'll try to do a shooting video comparing the following:

Lurker Eigenbarrel v3 - 15" - 0.684"
Planet Eclipse Shaft 4 - 14.5" - 0.685"
Planet Eclipse Shaft 4 - 14.5" - 0.693" (stock)

Yep, exactly. They're really very similar designs (nearly identical bore ID, control bore length is about 1/2" difference and total barrel length is about 1/2" difference) so I expect them to perform pretty close to each other. I'll do the 0.689" Shaft 4 as a comparison, because that's the stock barrel ID from PE.

I'm curious to see if the difference in porting will make any difference in sound signature. They both have a lot of ports, but I believe the Lurker barrel has more port area. The other big difference in the barrels is weight, but that won't affect how they shoot.

It is a similar design, but with a slightly longer control bore and overall length. Plus it weighs 103grams (vs. 123grams of the stock GEO3.1 barrel) and costs less than one single Shaft 4 barrel back!

Im sure the lurker tip has a smaller ID. That seems to be something most people dont think about. I know Simons kit has a few options for his tips and I think I remember him saying his largest tip offering still has a tighter ID than most freak tips.

edit: Ben, it might be a bit much to ask but the Dye boomstick is offered in a 684 and 680. That might be an even better comparison because the boomstick is also a 15inch. The boomy is also stainless (theoretically making it better), giving the eigen barrel a chance to put the whole Aluminum vs. Stainless debate to rest or prove it right. Unfortunately I sold my boomstick to afford the Eigen kit, otherwise id be glad to do the test my self or send you the barrel.

I don't have a Boomstick. I'm not really too interested in comparing to one.

Any chance at all that I could pick one of these up at Dallas? I know Lurker likely won't be there for anything, but if there's a way...

Radially symmetric - it's the same all the way around
Viscothermally advantaged porting - small holes and more of them for better transfer

In summary... quiet.

If you just want to use it at Dallas, then you can probably have him send it to me and I'll bring it up there with me Saturday.

Here are some comparisons on the amount of porting.

PE Shaft 4 (14.5") vs. Eigenbarrel V3 (15")

6 rows of 14 ports vs. 8 rows of 12+4 ports

I measured the ports and calculated port area.

Comparison to other aftermarket barrels from this thread.

http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3925097

Highest Porting Area to Lowest:
Lurker Eigenbarrel: 0.621 in^2
Furious Lotus: 0.444 in^2
Disruptive Deathtouch: 0.421 in^2
Macdev Shift: 0.387 in^2
Critical 100g: 0.373 in^2
PE Shaft 4: 0.371 in^2
Lapco Fuse: 0.362 in^2
Dye Ultralite: 0.319 in^2

I also measured the PE Shaft barrel control bore lengths.

PE Shaft 4: 8.5" Control Bore
PE Shaft 3: 6.0" Control Bore
Eigen V3: 9.4" Control Bore

I start playing Friday and by then I'll have bought a Dye, PE, or Freak back. Thanks though.

I'm still rocking V2's - I bought the V3 kit, but lack of 14" turned me off pretty quick.

Curious - is there any mechanism to ensure that the pieces screw together in a centered fashion - a la boomstick or lapco barrels? Or do they simply screw together like CP barrels?

Thanks!

I don't think I follow. Threads and a hard stop align the axis pretty well.

Some barrels thread together with a hard stop. Sometimes it can lead to a bit of misalignment. Back in the day (I'm old) and when we were sponsored by CP, we'd hand match backs to tips, and could tell "cockeyed" barrels where the threads had a bit of too much play.

Other barrels like the ultralights have a bit of a cone design to them, so it doesn't matter how much play the threads have, as the bevel serves to index the pieces together. Check it out if you have one. This ensures that the pieces are always centered.

Its a fine metric thread and it's collimated by an oring under some pretty serious compression. I don't think there's much to worry about with alignment.
