Lurker Paintball 2 Piece Eigenbarrel v3

I didn't see any posts about this, and just happened to find it on Lurker's site. I bought one and thought I would post photos in case anyone else was interested. Here is the info from the site:

Quote:
Based on the latest research in barrel technology, the Eigenbarrel provides optimum performance at an unmatched price.

-9.4" control bore length
- 0.695" tip bore
- Radially symmetric viscothermally advantaged porting with muzzle break for an extremely quiet shot.
- Chamfered breech entrance to prevent barrel breaks
- 0.678, 0.684, 0.690 backs available
-15" and 12" tips available
- 3.4 ounce weight places the eigenbarrel as one of the very lightest aluminum barrels available.
- 7075 aluminum alloy for improved durability compared to industry standard
- Shortened "Quick Threads" for faster installation on and off the field
The 2 Piece Eigenbarrel from Lurker Paintball is the 3rd version of the the Eigenbarrel. Here is a quick description of the Eigenbarrel history:
  • Eigenbarrel v1: 1 piece, continuous bore, 0.678" only, 14" only
  • Eigenbarrel v2: 1 piece, stepped bore, 0.678", 0.684", 0.690", 9.5" control bore, 14" only
  • Eigenbarrel v3: 2 piece, 0.678", 0.684", 0.690", 9.5" control bore, 0.695" tip bore, 15" and 12" tips

Here's a list of weights of barrels I had on hand personally:

Lurker Eigenbarrel v3 15": 103 grams
Lurker Eigenbarrel v1 14": 103 grams
Planet Eclipse SL2 14": 102 grams
Planet Eclipse SL2 16": 111 grams
Planet Eclipse Shaft 4 14.5": 123 grams
Planet Eclipse Shaft 4 16": 134 grams
Empire Sniper 14": 138 grams
Lucky 15 15": 158 grams

This two piece barrel has a 9.4" control bore. Longer than just about anything else on the market. The barrel back is male threaded on both ends, similar to a PE Shaft 4 (except both ends are right hand thread). The Shaft 4 has a 9" control bore, so this is slightly longer.

Here are photos of the barrel on my GEO 3.1.

Just noticed this on their site also, a 9.4 inch control bore is awesome for $40.

The control bore is similar in length to the PE Shaft 4. Overall it seems like a fairly similar barrel, but with more porting, lighter weight, and a very good price.

I hope to find that out soon!

Thanks! I agree that the barrel looks very nice. Huge step up from the v1 and v2, which were very boring looking.

I was on their site and I could not find out if you can buy just a barrel back. All I need is
678 and 684 with 15 inch front. Does anyone know if you can just buy pieces?

I think the v1's had stepped bores and the v2's had the steps milled down to a chamfer.

I too think the V1 had a stepped bore. I remember thinking mine did anyways.

I ordered the kit not too long ago. Cant wait. My V1 barrel shot great and im sure this kit will as well. The price is amazing at $100 for 3 backs, 2 tips, case.

I don't see that option either. I hope that would be possible.

Holes on the barrel. Makes it quieter.

Maybe Lurker can clarify but I have a first batch v1 and it is a continuous bore. Not stepped or chamfered. There may have been some smaller changes within the "v1" or "v2" designations.

Well my original review from the first batch of Eigenbarrels includes an except from the official product description and it says it's non stepped. I am not sure what point it changed to being stepped. It could have been considered v1 or v2. I'm don't know.

My non stepped v1 shot well until there was a break. Then it was a blender. The step is needed with thay much of an underbore or it just can't shoot through a break.

It means writing product descriptions is really boring

It just means that smaller holes actually diffuse sound much more efficiently than large holes, because there are actual losses in the air.

See figure 1 and figure 2 for the general concept:
http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/0907/0907.4859.pdf

In short, small holes have a sizable contribution in which acoustic energy is dissipated as heat. Absorbers at airports, for example, use absorbers based on Maa et al's theories on sound absorption. So, when I decided to make a barrel in the first place, I knew the best results would be from a LOT of porting, but also arranged in many small holes. It definitely seems to be optimal.

Radially symmetric just means it's in rows arranged at equal spacing around the barrel.

There are only 200 true v1s without the step, you can identify them because they are NOT laser engraved. If your barrel is engraved, but a 1 piece, it is a v2.
