The PC I just built was $450 and I max out Skyrim with several mods and Farcry 3 also maxed. I havent tried anything newer, yet.. but for $500 you can get a nice machine

Thanks for the info guys, especially Komodo for knowing the importance of speed and audio quality when recording . I'm leaning toward going with the HP for simplicity's sake knowing a few hardware tweaks won't break the bank, also I'm getting tired of not being able to watch porn :nododgy:

Wow, surprised someone remembered. They are sustaining, the hearing loss hasn't grown much since then. I am very fortunate.

I feel like that build could be better for just a little bit more money by choosing separate components.

Corsair 430w psu is usually $40, that's a good starter PSU. Get a 7850 gpu for $130 or whatever they cost, then use the rest for an AMD processor and mobo.

I think there's a $20 rebate on now on Newegg for the modular version. Usually 5 bucks more, but I'd pay that much extra for modular. I actually just got one of the non-modular ones to run the heated bed on my 3D printer (whenever I buy said heated bed, that is...), kind wishing I'd waited for the modular one to go on sale.

This isn't for serious gaming, I'd like to be able to watch Netflix, run multiple recording programs without it freezing up, some flash games, etc. I'd love to build a custom computer, just not if it costs an arm and a leg for no noticeable advantage over a store bought. Ultimately I'd like to play current games but it seems like you need a $1000+ machine to run things like BF4 fluidly.

youd be suprised with what you can build for under $600. theres lots of review and how to videos out there like tek syndicate, neweggtv, linustechtips, and others that have vids on how to build and what to spend your money on. the $1000+ systems are really just for extra bragging rights. you could probably build one that can edit videos just fine for $400 and if you start leaning more to pc than consoles for gaming spend $200 on a graphics card later. biggest advantage i can think of since ive built my first pc is i can always upgrade it down the road vs. buying a whole new one because something isnt compatable or i need a bigger power supply, etc.

this card is $150 for example.

yeah, building a computer pretty much always ends up being cheaper in the long run, assuming you disregard the fever you catch for buying faster components even before you buy the first ones.

I've been using the core of my desktop, CPU+mobo+memory since 2008 and it's still not really suffering through most games and normal programs. I have however gone through like 4 different video cards but that was mostly my own preferences, first one was causing global warming but the rest were mostly fine.

But using it for 6 years it's definitely not that expensive then. I have friends who go through a laptop every two years at best.

mine was outdated when i built in 2011 but it still holds up just fine as well. so far nothing has ever put any strain on my cheaper cpu....i did cheap out of a graphics card when i built it though (550ti) and that part is starting to show its age for sure but handles most games adequately at medium settings. skyrim still looks better at "medium" on pc than it did on consoles for example. graphics cards have also come a long way since then too and offer a lot more bang for the buck it seems.

I need a budget build for my father, as cheap as you can go without compromising integrity. Use will be for interner browsing, online banking, porn and such.

Have peripherals don't need OS, no graphics card needed it will be running windows 7.

Would like a small SSD for OS, and don't need more than a 500g HD.

How low do you think we can keep it and can you guys reccomened some quality budget parts?

Any help is appreciated.

i5 and integrated graphics, probably 8gb ram (maybe 4, but that's pushing it), a lil bitty psu (350w ?) el cheapo case, 128gb SSD (64 is awfully tiny, unless you plan on *only* installing the OS. which is a little silly). optical drive if he needs one. those are dirt cheap.

4GB RAM is more than enough for what he said his needs were.

For SSD maybe. 120gb.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820178452

It's $60 after $10 rebate, heard it's a good SSD however they're really tanking in price lately so if you don't need it immediately may as well wait a bit.

For PSU,

And there goes the budget...

Nice thing he is doing for his father. I just bought a SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 and an ASUS AC68U AC1900 wireless router for my mom... to replace her DOCSIS 2.0 and WRT54G wireless router. After I replace her router... I'm keeping the WRT54G.

I love the look of that new card! Maybe I'll get one when I get home so I can keep up with you

Got my replacement new laptop. This thing is incredible. It's like comparing the original iphone screen to the most recent retina, awesome. It's a shame I can't get this mSata SSD to work for me

We have an sb6141. nice little modem, but i guess it just does what it's supposed to do. we have a 3 AP ubiquiti system in our house that i love so far (been installed for a month or so).

it doesn't really come up in conversation but it still excites me, so I figured i'd chime in here

My mom has horrible internet at home. She said that she had a cox tech go to her house and basically told her that her modem and wireless router are dated... which I already knew. So I'm going to fix that issue after work today.

You must have a huge house. Our house is 3k sq/ft... but 1 AP is all I use to take care of a dead spot in the front of the house. I'm not sure if I still need it with the new AC1900 router.

That's basically what I put together yesterday on newegg for my dad plus his has a 60G SSD from corsair for the OS. It's at about $400 before mail ins, shipping tax and all.

Is there anyway to share wishlists anymore? Or am I going to have to put it up part by part?
