The 'plunger' closes sooner than it shows in the gif. It does not wait for the bolt to begin its rearward stroke

Some Tech Babel behind the bolt

Additionally, the clutch ring wants to extrude out of the groove, like any seal, which means the seal is self energizing. This helps prevent things like compression set. The rest of the robustness comes from material choice.

The valve always begins the firing cycle fully forward, which means the action is consistent and predictable.

The valve does not close slowly, it closes more quickly than almost anything in paintball. The back pressure from the ball acts directly on the valve face to force the valve to the rest position independent of the bolt.

I hope this begins to address your concerns around the engine design. The chamber is obviously fully balanced, so there is only a small pneumatic forward bias.from the flowing air.

I think that when you realize the back pressure is responsible for the independent valve closure, the speed of the valve becomes clear.

Because the valve comes back on its own, the electronic dwell does not matter. So, things like bolt stick are easily overcome.

The assembly also unsticks only 2 rings at a time. Compare to a balanced spool, which unsticks 6. Once a set of rings breaks away, it does not add stiction.

A few things.

No air is ever vented anywhere but the ball

The pneumatic sear ends up acting as a mini dill chamber to the back off the bolt, because we shut off the flow to the sear during the solenoid firing.

The chamber itself never shuts off.

The first stage bolt firing is flow limited by the solenoid. It is about a fifth of an inch. Very slow, low force.

The valve picks up a pneumatic bias, which is counteracted by a latching magnet, and a spring. The sorting is not needed and is a safety feature to prevent firing on gas up.

After bolt stage 1, the internal ridge on the bolt contacts our clutch ring at the valve tip. Passing this by requires ring compression. Much like the old Angel led snap ring.

This force does not need to be much because the magnet latch is counteracted by the New pneumatic bias. The clutch ring itself is self energizing because of the extrusion force in the created groove. Compression of elastomer it's typically rated to a ton of cycles before failure, we need to do our own testing on abrasion resistance, over time, but so far so good.

The bolt moves the valve forward by this clutch ring, then the valve his a forward travel stop.

When that occurs, they bolt had enough force to compress the clutch, and allow air to flow to the ball.

Once the bolt clears the valve, the valve it's already resetting. The build up of breech pressure is the primary driver of closure speed.

This closing action also doubles as a boost to the opening speed, because the , lift between they bolt and valve tip rapidly increases during the closing event.

The valve is free to close with no influence from the bolt. The bolt can stay forward indefinitely with no ill effects, which means electronic dwell is irrelevant.

The sensing action and vectors.off our forces means we get recoil cancellation benefits, consistency benefits (compensating for varying ball weight and seal quality), in addition to a very high flow valve closing almost immediately.

The stalk is supported from droop during firing by the cross beam that is the front stop for the valve. The angle that dimension allows let's the front seal come back without contacting the wall.

I think that about covers it, it is very simple but required a lot of thought, calculation, and never seen before tricks to package and make work proper.

The inherent dynamics of the system, add you can plainly see, are excellent.

Stage 2 bolt speed is controlled by restriction in the solenoid.

This. With as much science and engineering they put behind all their products, I'm really curious to try this out.

I'm curious to see the bolt engine. From someone who pretty much took the shocker style bolt to its limits, i want to see what he came up with from scratch.

Just wait until the internals are released. This has the most advanced valve dynamic the sport has ever seen. The real beauty is how the technology has been incorporated in the most simple (read: reliable) manner. There is a picture of the body on caustic customs page.

edit: Thanks Alex.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
