2014 CPL - Coaching or no Coaching?

I have spoken to several teams about coaching. Most do not care while other do not want coaching. Speak up and let us know what you think!

I think you should keep it the same rules as the PSP.

No coaching allows for the best players to shine on there own.

I'd say since this is a PSP affiliate league, stick with the PSP rules for each division. Might as well use it for the experience leading up to PSP Chicago/World Cup like it's intended to be.

Has finals coaching for race-to 4 been clarified for the PSP yet?

Coaching ruins so much hard work. And it's not like you really need to have a full event/series that helps you "practice" coaching that would make you better for a national.

I feel no coaching makes individual players better, because it makes you actually think, which is exactly what this series is for.

Coaching is allowed at PSP, therefore it should be allowed in the CPL. Teams will encounter it at the events and should be prepared for it. Normally I wouldn't care but since it plays such a strong role in The PSP it should be allowed in an affiliate league. My .02

I had been in a discussion regarding coaching/no coaching immediately after last CPL season. At that time, I was on the coaching side. I have changed my mind after an off-season, and two no-coaching Young Guns events at Ohare Paintball. At the Young Guns level, there is an emphasis on teaching communication on-field. But then we stifle the teamwork concept by saying they should also try to pay attention to all the frenzied screaming on the sideline. I've come to realize that these two concepts are at odds with one another. I would like to continue to teach the importance of communicating on-field, and, even at the Young Guns level, make that teamwork be the make-or-break deciding factor. Not who has more organized sideline supporters. That's just my two cents. I could be wrong.

Being an affiliate league, I think that there should be coaching. Promoting this a PSP-like experience, then you need to follow the same rules as PSP. Whether or not I like coaching is up for debate, but seeing how its allowed is PSP divisional play, it should be allowed here.

With the prizes being PSP entry then coaching should be allowed.

Its a PSP affiliate series.... Rules should be very similar if not the same as the PSP. If you want your team to work on communication do it at practice. 100% there should be coaching.

When can we expect an announcement to be made on the final decision based on what you decide?

It will be more than likely to allow coaching. I will speak with Ryan tomorrow night to finalize.

I agree with everyone. Coaching is a must.psp rules. If we go no coaching we go to 10 bps. So yea. There will be sideline participation. Sean..... Go work on living legends stuff. I'll handle this and the bikini contest. Haha.

Sean means well. He actually cares about the cpl a lot. So much he calls me everyday regarding it. We'll be taking it up a level this season from the already successful method we had last year. Keep in mind though I have been working with appa and we may put a limit of 12 teams per division on the xball classes. The appa are in town this weekend and were handling all those things. Updates to follow.

Even though the decision is already made it seems, I wanted to offer up my opinion as well...I agree with those that say that no coaching creates higher skilled players. However, because CPL is a PSP feeder league, it is meant to prepare players for the PSP events. With this in mind, when teams or players get to the events they will run in to teams being coached. Until PSP changes it's divisional rules, I feel that CPL should keep it's rules consistant with the PSP.
