thinking about magfed

I'm sure there are a million posts like this but I have been searching around just thought I'd ask people what they recommend.

I rarely have played woodsball or recball in the past 8 years. I normally just play to practice for airball tournaments. I played a scenario game last year and had a blast. I've thought about getting a magfed gun for first strike rounds just to mess around with and to play a few scenarios with. I would love to get something like the DAM but I'm not going to spend 1000+ on a gun that I won't use more than a few times a year. I watched some videos of people sniping people with first strikes at scenario games and it looks way fun.

What options are out there for first strike round guns that won't be overly expensive (if any).

The Milsig M-Series Elite is a nice, more affordable marker that supports FSRs.

Or if you really want to go for cheap, Spyder's mag-fed options are pretty decent as well. The Hammer 7 is a fun little marker that is rather cheap.

Another budget option is the Tiberius Arms T9.1. You can customize it very easily and great for first strike. It's about 300 - 400$

I looked at the T9.1 Sniper. Do you need to pay for a FSR conversion on that or does it come FSR ready?

Edit: I just looked at the t9.1 elite. It looks like the same thing as the sniper but cheaper. What are the main differences between these two?

There really are no differences. All of the markers have the same T9.1 base. The only thing that changes is the accessories that come with it. I was looking into them for a while, and came across a price per part layout that showed the Ranger is the best value. If you want all of the bells and whistles, then you can get all of the pieces from other sites for much cheaper.

The .1 Tiberius guns are all FSR ready. So the 8.1 pistol and the 9.1 platform all shoot First Srike out of the box. I was originally going to get the 9.1 Ranger because I think it looks badass, but I instead went with a tacamo converted MK5 with DMAGs. The cost of the Tiberius mags and small capacity was my deciding factor.

I'm still waiting on a few parts but I'll get a picture soon. One thing I like about going the MKV/MK5/MKP route is I can build it exactly how I want it instead of having pieces on it that I would then have to replace.

If you want to shoot FSR's with any accuracy past 40 or so yards you will need to buy items that allow you to do that as well. You are looking at getting a scope(recommended) or red-dot and an adjustable riser. A bipod will come in handy also. With shooting FSR's its not just the gun when looking at cost, unfortunatly it takes a few accessories to be effective at long ranges. Ive seen people try to "guess-ta-mate" with FSR's and it just ends up being a really expensive way to miss. But...if your looking to stay within regualr paint range then you wont need anything.

Oh, and a range finder...or have a spotter that has one. Sounds like overkill but trust me you ability to range things between 40-80 yards will put your shots all over the place of you dont have an accurate measurment. Ive tried using the mil-dot method but found it takes way to long when trying to range targets that way(i.e. opponnents mask) and hardley anything on the paintball field is standard size. Check out Trinity's Blog, Tango Down, he clarifies a lot about shooting FSR's and will save you a lot of time and possibly money.

The absolute CHEAPEST way to try a first strike marker is the Empire Trracer. it's not marketed as FSR, but the breech will oddly enough work with First Strike rounds. Coincidence? I think not.

Not that odd. You can pretty much breach load a first strike in just about any paintball gun as long as the barrel isn't too small

I tried using the empire trracer with first strike and found it very difficult to properly breach load the FSR. It wants to go in nose first and fiddling around with it in a fire fight sucks. It did fine accuracy wise, i could hit a target 70 yards away consistantly but in game it was very hard to use. It's cheap for a reason.

It would actually be easier to buy the hammer 7 and reload the single magazine each time. Plus, that's only 5 dollars more expensive than the Trracer.

A team mate has the hammer 7 but only uses regular paint balls for it so can't comment about first strike. For regular rounds it works fine from what i have seen.

I play only scenario and big game formats and, from experiance, while FS Rounds are a blast and very accurate, in a non-mag fed only game there are times where having the firepower of a hopper fed marker is a big help...especially in Scenario. This is the reason why I got the Dye DAM.

HOWEVER, understanding you don't want to spend that kind of money maybe look into the Spyder MR-5. It is the only other marker where you can go from hopper to magazine on the field. The MR-5 does it by twisting the barrel as opposed to the DAM's switch.

Just something to consider.

The RAP4 T68 Splitfire also has that function.

Did not know they had come out with that Shocker...but I've never heard good things about the T68 platform.

Yeah from what I've heard its either they work just fine or they are miserable failures. No middle ground. Was planning on picking up the gen7 T68/DMAG kit from Operation End War but ended up building an MK5 instead due to $$$.

I gave the Dmags a try, and I was just.....underwhelmed. Yes, they're significantly cheaper, but you can really tell why. The plastic is flimsy, and they're very difficult to seat properly. Maybe I was just spoiled from the Zetamags, but I prefer a magazine that doesn't crack the first strike fins while loading.

There is also the Scarab Arms TGR2 mag feed only will take all milsig and rap4 mags (not Dmags) you can get a solid package with 8mags total i believe for about 500 bucks. (however doesnt come with a 13/3000 tank for the tank stock combo) But I would recommend getting one of the rap4 air in stocks and running a remote so you can use any size tank you want. still have the stability of the stock and it lightens up the whole thing.

I run a T68 gen7 with dmags. I personal think it's the best bang for your buck for first strike rounds. I bought mine from the operation end war sale for $350 (including shipping and tax). And since it comes with a lok bolt no breaks from unseated paintballs. The dmags are very rough, but the beauty of the T68 is that you can convert it to take scarab arms magazines, which are also first strike, but they are more expensive.
