Pro field coaching changes for 2014

On the Pro field, the PSP wants to showcase the players’ abilities and bring more attention to their skills. We are already doing so by gathering stats and ranking players individually. To continue in this direction, the PSP wants to lower the impact of their equipment and external influences.
The PSP will be limiting coaching solely to the bleachers, as well as restricting the use of signage or sound devices.

Crowd participation remains an important part of our format, but sideline coaching won’t be allowed anymore. This will help the spectators in the front rows to better see the action, as well as lower teams’ expenditures. But these changes focus mainly on bringing back dynamic moves in the snake and contributing to the overall excitement of the game.

The PSP strongly believes these changes will highlight individual skills, team strategy, and make the games more visually appealing to our audience.

Here are the answers to some of the pressing questions:

Keep in mind this is a Code of Conduct, not a rule per say. We cannot penalize a team/player for something spectators do. So there won’t be a penalty, but we will politely ask the offender to stop. If that person still doesn’t want to abide by the code of conduct, that person will be removed from the spectator side.

As of today, this will only affect the Pro field, not the Challengers field. See below, this has changed

EDIT:

Divisional teams making their way to the Pro field will also have to abide by this code.
I understand playing for 2 days with a sideline coach then not having him/her will require some adjustments. But once you play on the big boys’ field, you need to step up your game and abide by similar rules. (And keep in mind your opponent will be in the same position.)

We make a distinction between what happens on the playing field (rules) and around it (code of conduct):
  • The Rules remain the same for Divisional teams no matter where they play. (Divisional field or Pro field) Thus the ROF won't change once they step onto the Pro field.
  • But the Code of Conduct of the Pro field forbid any teams from having a sideline coach.

So...My questions are:
1 - How are you going to enforce it? What is the penalty?

2 - Will the same rules be in affect for the Challengers field too?

The league currently doesn't enforce the no electronic communication from the sidelines to the pits. Not because they don't want to, but because it's difficult at best and impossible at worst. It would take an extensive amount of man power.

so no sideline coaching in pro division. i can dig that. but what about challengers? are they considered pro for this?

also, what about divisional teams coming up the ranks....or the ones that practice with pro teams....So at practice one team will expect a coach and the pro team wont have one....and when you learn to play divisional with a coach, you then lose that aspect of the game/team when you make the jump to pro

dont get me wrong, i kinda like the idea of no coaching, but if you're going to eliminate it for one division, you should nix it for them all. Keep the rules the same no matter what division you play. Something simple like ROF or race-4/7 can be different as it is, but something as big as having or not having a coach should be the same across the board.

How about for the finals for divisional teams on the Pro field?

Will coaching be allowed or not?

Plus, what do you mean by the bolded part?

I think that's referring to the drop in BPS.

To me that signals the PSP is intending to bring pro-paintball in line with other pro sports that put certain restrictions on what equipment is and isn't legal for "pro" players.

The two examples I can think of off the top of my head are Baseball and Golf.
Obviously, MLB players can't swing away with the type of high-tech aluminum bats available to the public. Likewise, golf pros face certain restrictions with what sort of clubs they're allowed to have in the bag.

It's a very interesting move. I'll be most interested to see what this does for the gap between current pro teams and Divisional/Challenger teams that are trying to move up. This is getting to be kind of an exciting time for the pro-game.

There is still coaching from the bleachers, just not the fence. Not like they completely axed it

This is a great move. Coaching should have been taken out a long time ago. The skill is the player figuring out what to do. Not someone telling them what to do.

So this just means that the people in the 2-5th row of the bleachers won't be able to see around the aggressive front row bleacher coaches, right?

I didn't even bother trying to sit more than 1/2 way down the bleachers in Dallas because of the teams that brought flip boards with G counts, signs, posters, etc into the game. I think I'd rather deal with the Russians coach screaming in, well.. Russian, or Damage's snake side coach screaming himself red in the face, than to have to try and see around a PVC flipboard.

Curious about enforcement myself.
