what i would do would email the nppl and get them to send a email to the company, since the nppl is a group/company/organization it would seem to budweiser that they represent all paintball players, not just a few mad ones. That's what i would do if i wasn't lazy

i wrote this

Hello, it has come to my attention that Anheuser-Busch has or is planning to debut a commercial that gives the sport of paintball a negative image. I ask you as a paintball player, please re-consider this act. Paintball already has a negative image going already, such a popular company such as you will make or break paintball. Please portray paintball, as it is normally played, very safe and organized. I hope you will take this into consideration thank you

eh?

i just saw it, right after the super bowl, there was this ref going over the rules, he was wearing yellow shop glasses, he is going over the rules saying they will be playing for bud light, none of the players have their mask on, and all of their barrel plugs are out, then once they hear that they are playing for bud light they all start shooting the ref guy, i think comercials and anything else that portrays paintball like this shouldn't be aired on tv, email them and tell them what you think

I will be boycotting budweiser now. I saw that commercial. The guys that were shooting only had on ski goggles. That was extremely bad publicity for the sport. Think of how many moms are gonna tell their kids that they cant play now because it is dangerous. I hope everyone joins me in my boycot.

I emailed Chuck H. of the NPPL and I think everybody else should do the same, even if our emails to A-B don't do anything, maybe telling the NPPL will... Just my 2 cents

Here's a link to a thread on AP about the commercial:
http://www.automags.org/forums/showt...hreadid=122769

Quote:
Just a word of warning....

I just saw Anheuser-Busch's Super Bowl Bud Light commercials in a sneak preview here in St. Louis.

The commercial is cute, BUT ..... You (the paintball community as a whole) AIN'T GONNA BE HAPPY.

I'm in the process of trying to talk to the gentleman in charge of the commercials. I'll let you know what I find out.

DW

Quote:
OK, guys.....

I just spoke with the gentleman here at A-B in St. Louis in person, face-to-face. He was somewhat surprised at my concerns because the primary focus of ALL PB'ers in this commercial will be the safety issue that will be more than apparent.

He did tell me that safety was a major concern with the filming. However, he was not fully aware of the restrictions that we place upon ourselves when around our staging areas and on the field, i.e. full mask and barrel covers/plugs.

As in most advertising they sometimes, as he put it, "go over the top" and it was not meant to put PB in an unfavorable light. He was very respectful and understanding and expressed his thanks at my bringing these concerns to his attention. Apparently they had shown this ad to 600 people in trial runs and I was the first person who had expressed any reservations.

So.... When you see this ad run during the Super Bowl, try to take it with a grain of salt.

Matter of fact..... Think I'll go have a nice cold, frosty Budweiser right now.

A link to the ad and my thoughts

A link to the ad

Before you start complaining go see the ad. You can find it here: www.budweiser.com and click on "see our ads".
Then start the complaining.
BUT, before you do, please consider this . . . this is not a documentary, it's not intended to be a real life depiction of paintball. It's just a commercial. And a very funny one at that.
Speaking as a video producer (I'm the owner of 1 Shot Productions) if I was to make a commercial, or movie, or anything other than a documentary, I would do the same thing. You can't show facial expressions and the like when a person is wearing a mask. When we make commercials like this,we 'go over the top' as the AB guy put it. Look at the Cadillac commercials. Is anyone complaining that the car really can't outrun sound? Or the one with the monkey on their back? Is that realistic?
Just take the ad for what it is. A chance for people to see paintball.
And if the guys at AB get flooded with angry letters form angry paintballers, they may never do another ad involving paintball again. And we don't want that, do we?

Good point Nick.

I think the add was funny, Pretty much every thing envolving paintball on tv... Besides tournament coverage has shown paintball in a badway.

It hasnt harmed our sport, and probly will not do that in the distant future.

The ad wouldnt of been funny if he wore a mask.

Harmed? They did us a nice big favor.

Lotsa people who don't know paintball watch the superbowl. Say what you will about the safety, it showed paintball as something that normal people do for fun. It was funny. The people in the commercial were "normal", they were having fun, it wasn't too serious....

What's not to like?

Anyone who actually goes to a field to play will get proper safety instruction, as should anyone who actually goes and buys a marker. It's like the warnings on the hair dryer: You can only do so much to prevent people from dropping a hair dryer in their bathtub. If people are going to be stupid and run around in their back yard playing with shop goggles, then they're going to be stupid. Nothing you can do about it.
