Unhappy Self described MILITANT Atheist BEATS Pastor after Church...

"NORTH HAMPTON, Ohio — A self-described militant atheist with a criminal past faces multiple charges after an attack on a pastor who, after his sermon, had asked the man's girlfriend if she felt safe.

James Maxie, 28, of Springfield, Ohio, is charged with second-degree felonious assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest after an incident Sunday at The Bridge Community Church in North Hampton.

Police Chief Jarrod Campbell said in his 11 years with the department, he's rarely dealt with "an incident this brutal."

The Rev. Norman Hayes, 57, said he feared for his life and begged for the attack to stop. Hayes suffered a broken nose, bruises and three long cuts that required stitches across his face.

"I questioned his girlfriend in his presence if she felt safe," Hayes said. "He was very, very upset that I'd even suggest that he would hurt her. Then he turned around and hurt me very badly."

Hayes said Maxie was argumentative and confrontational during the service.
"It looked like he was looking for an argument," Hayes said."

It is always interesting to me how some Atheists are so confrontational... As if others having faith in God is a personal attack on their lack of belief in a higher power.

To think he was attending the church and disrupting it during the service, and then for him to attack the pastor afterwords... IN the church... all because he asked the girlfriend "if she felt safe"...

Hey. Look at that. A guy with a criminal past committed a crime. Newsworthy.

Carry guns, pop fools. It would have been newsworthy if the pastor dropped him, I just don't see why you'd attack someone who's obviously not going to fight back. Should have just told Jesus on the pastor for talking to his girlfriend rather than making it physical.

This is not atheism at all. This is just a guy who got into an altercation with a pastor. Sucks that they had to include he was an atheist because this doesn't reflect the rest of us. If it had been the other way around, they would have included the "Pastor" part of Hayes' name as well. That doesn't mean all believers are like that. Either way, ****ty situation.

It sounds to me like the priest was being extremely disrespectful.

The boyfriend was obviously demonstrated his ability to protect his girlfriend.

They should pay the boyfriend for all the free marketing, "The blood of the martyrs..."

Obvious sensationalism.

Seems like the pastor was being a bit disrespectful , but brutal attacks aren't going to get this guy anywhere but prison. The fact he is an atheist isn't relevant though and this article and the thread's title are clearly aiming to make atheists as a whole look bad. Feel bad for the priest but the OP doesn't need to attack an entire group of people for their beliefs
