Kee Acquires Kingman (It's official - Empire's parent company now owns Spyder)

KEE Action Sports has purchased Kingman \ Spyder, in a further attempt to secure more big-box store space and acquire Kingman's existing product line.

As someone who's first marker was a Spyder, this is interesting news!

Press release from today as the news became official.

Sewell, NJ, October 21, 2013, KEE Action Sports.
KEE Action Sports is excited to report that we have recently reached an agreement to purchase select assets of Kingman International including the entire Spyder line of markers.

For nearly 20 years, Spyder has been regarded as one of the most successful marker lines in the paintball industry, with 68 caliber styles such as the Fenix, Xtra, Victor, MR5, MRX and a full range of 50 caliber markers.

The addition of the Spyder product line to KEE Action Sports existing product offering will allow dealers an easier and more efficient way to order and stock the product. KEE Action Sports has 5 US and 3 international warehouses to ship from, allowing dealers to increase their profits by having shorter shipping times and cheaper freight cost and KEE’s commitment to MAP pricing protection on our entire branded products.

We hope that you see the added bonuses this acquisition brings to your business. KEE Action Sports continues to be committed to the long term success of the paintball industry and our dealers. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us."

Interesting. Curious who advises KEE on their acquisitions.

Probably for the best so they ddn't have to fold like APS did. Kingman was once dominant but hasn't seemed to capture the same market share or have a good product line for a lot of years.

My first gun was a spyder standard I bought new in 1995. I still have a mint TL Plus that I take out and shoot once and a while too.

I think they shot themselves in the foot when they dropped having a "MAP" policy, and I would see full packages on sale on Action Village cheaper than my local store's COST to buy them.

So one company known for recent .50 cal creations buys out another company that makes .50 markers... I'm going to be hopeful on this one.

Interesting to see what happens with this.

spyder .50cal?
spyder milsim with their mr platforms?
or just more of the sub-standard STBB's that they have been kicking out the past few years?

I'd like to see them back on track to competing with azodin for quality in the STBB platform but I know I won't see that day.... probably just going to sell it all to wal-mart in the end..

edit: inb4 they do what they did with JT and resurrect the EM-1 platform, hey I can dream big dreams right?

Perhaps we'll see the end of the spyder threaded barrel. I hope they keep the brand alive, there's still some good products there, and a lot of good history.

Nothing on KEE's News page on their website. But then, there hasn't been anything new added there since March 2011. Guess they are having problems keeping up to date.

hammer 7 looks decent. still not sure why Kee felt this was worth it though. they have plenty of brands through which to funnel new ideas...and I dont think the spyder IP is worth all that much.

its not the IP, rather like JT Spyder is one of the "legacy' brand in paintball

I would rather have a spyder threaded barrel or 98 barrel than my cocker threaded barrel...takes soooooo long to unscrew. Lol

Not sure how the brands line up under the Kee empire. (See what I did there?) I'm interested to see what happens next.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
  3. If you don't like something, say why instead of just calling it ugly, lame, gay or any other name. If it is old, simply post a link or report the post with a link to the older News thread.
  4. Please don't post links for places to buy items. That encourages stores, sponsored players and other people to do it and spam the site.
