Made some awesome progress tonight!

Got both of my pump rods made. The brass threaded easier than I thought it would and turned out really nice I would say. Only thing left to do is clean up the ends slightly, even though they're unseen, and polish them again

In the vice with the die

Fresh cut threads

Also got my pump handle modded for dual pump rods and set screws to use smooth pump rods instead of threaded. No room for set screws in the back block.

Pump rods in my new sled

Handle and sled together

Last thing for these parts is just to shorten or find shorter set screws. It's going to some short screws but I should be able to manage. Probably end up just cutting down the ones I have.

More progress for tonight. I got a lot of work done on the brass secondary pump guide and finished up the pump rods.

Here is the brass stock after being cut = hacksaw

After being cut I filed it flat then sanded down with 220, 400, 600 = this picture

This is the other end, I filed it down and rounded it out with 220 and worked up to 600

Here it is next to the stock guide

After some 1200 grit

And finally polished

Pump rods got a similar treatment. Filed flat, sanded down and polished

Brass vs SS (not polished) guide

Brass rod cut for bolt pin, more work on this later

You may have noticed my new guide is short with no room for threads. Since I don't have the means to turn down the brass rod perfectly I'm going to improvise slightly.
I plan on drilling out the flat size of the guide and tapping it for 10-32 threads, then using a threaded section of the smaller rod, same as the pump arms, to act as the threads for the guide. I will loc-tite the threaded section into the main part of the guide so they will act as one piece and should never separate.

Thanks! I'm glad people are enjoying my build. I work on it everyday in some way, shape or form. Hopefully my new (correct) VA will be in soon and I'm looking for a replacement screw for the VA today. Going to put an Allen head screw instead of the 12pt socket screw.

Longest part will be the work on the body. Everything else will basically be polishing and assembly.

Last night I decided to take some pictures of my new shiny stuff in the pump handle.

Today got a few minor things done. Found out home improvement stores and tractor supply don't carry any bolts in the right threading for an autococker VA. Didn't make it to a real hardware store but will tomorrow.
I did find some shorter set screws in stainless steel.

New 3/16" vs. old 1/4"

Started to shave down the SS screw

Closer

Decided to take a different one way down to see if it's possible to get one flush

Getting closer

Success!

How small it actually took! Only about 2-3 threads left but it's still solid as you can see.

Got a few more small things done tonight. Threaded more of the 3/16th rod to use for the secondary pump guide. Also drilled out the brass guide and was going to tap it but need a vice to hold it and will have to go back to the garage for that.

Pics for now

Tomorrow I'll tap out the guide and loc-tite the threaded section into it. Turned out pretty decent for my ****ty drill press.

Finished up the secondary guide today. Tapped out the hole I drilled yesterday and fitting the threaded section.

Little too long

I filed down the threaded piece until the guide sat flush and as straight as possible. Then threw on some blue loc-tite

Completed guide

The guide wasn't looking as good as I liked so I repolished it and took more pictures

Won't be done that soon and I have a lot of little stuff that I will be collecting for the gun over the winter. I plan on have quite a few different options, mostly cool or unique freak tips and other brass parts as I can find them.

Parts I need to acquire currently:
Brass trigger shoe
Brass detent
Custom brass freak tip (this will be happening)
Spring kit or set
12 gram changer (possibly, not sure how the hyper 2 will like CO2)
50rd hopper - want a Winchester or APP and throwing a loclid on it

Thanks! I like to do stuff not normally done and show you can do a lot of stuff by hand. Seems like everybody needs a professional machinist with a CNC to do their project for them.

I've been a little surprised how much stuff I've found locally by just researching and looking through stores. A good vice, a drill press and a few taps and dies go a long way.

Excellent build so far! You're giving me some fresh ideas for a project I set aside a few months ago. Keep up the awesome work, cant wait to see a finished product!

Thanks! I'm excited for this weekend, plan on finishing the polishing work on basically everything besides the body. At least that's the goal/plan.

Forgot to ask, are you planning on polishing the bolt? I have a pump with a bolt that looks similar that i should probably polish up.

Yes I do. I'll use some 2000 grit sand paper on the worn part then use plast-X plastic polish. As long as it's done carefully to not heat up the plastic while polishing it should come out fine.

Got quite a bit more done tonight.

Got all these parts to 1200 grit

Then did a little polishing by hand to see what they'll look like. They definitely need more work, might step up to 2000 grit before polishing them but I know the polishing wheel will take a lot more out than quickly by hand with some random cloth.

And a few of the polished main guide, custom brass secondary guide and 1 pump rod on the handle

I really like how the asa turned out with the black accents. I plan on leaving the feedneck and VA black as well for now for more black accents.

The freak tip still has blue ano showing in the ports and it's a pain to get rid of. I could either strip the ano completely and repolish it or hope that the rougher polishing compound will take it out.
