Introducing the Garmin VIRB video camera

Garmin has recently released a new camera that is trying to give GoPro a run for its money. The Garmin VIRB comes with an LCD screen already, unlike GoPro, where you have to spend another 70$ for a screen. Both shoot 1080p and look great. Same price range. Take a look! Apparently they can measure your speed and altitude, etc. As a snow skier, that looks awesome. They are also in the same price range!

I, Personally, am a fan of GoPros, i love mine, and I love using it for paintball. Mainly I use the bike rail mount on my barrel. GoPro's are great and don't stick out to much or take up a lot of space, so not much risk of getting hit on the GoPro.

Let's see if this one works. Edit - yep, will paste into first post. Pics borrowed from Garmin's site.

It's interesting, but I think about other projects Garmin has attempted. They make an awesome GPS, but have faltered with other products at times. Their all-in-one fish/depth finder comes to mind, from my marina days. The GPS system in them was great, but as a depth finder, they were pretty bad. A lot of guys would run a Garmin GPS and a Lowrance depth/fish finder. Likewise, the Lowrance all-in-one was a great depth finder and a mediocre GPS.

Seems that Garmin has followed the idea of the Drift Ghost HD camera

Personally I have always HATED the way the GoPro looked. Like strapping a box on your forehead or barrel. I should add that I think that barrel mounted cames make for the worst videos as well. You spend more time getting close up views of bunkers and the dirt more than seeing whats happening.
With the size of these things plus their durability I think they make for some great helmet mounted cameras. But i'm still giving the edge to the Drift with its remote that can be attached to the wrist

Both cameras seem good, it all just comes down to personal preference. I hope to soon pick up the Garmin and give it a try.

I dont like the Garmin lens can't rotate like the Drift. So it seems like the Garmin has features between the Contour, Drift and Sony Action Camera.

I like this personally. I didn't really like how when I used the head refs GoPro at my field how it just stuck out when attached to my barrel. Might give this a try now...

Very cool looking. I am going to check one out for price point. We run with a variety of cameras, primarily Contour 1080p. I am anxious to see a video comparison.

No rotating lens sucks.
But that lens looks pretty damn beefy.

We need a comparo video.

I know Garmin makes iffy non-gps ****, but I mean a camcorder is a camcorder. A lot of things are binary as far as performance is concerned.

60fps 1080p? Yes? Good. Kinda? That doesn't exist.
High fidelity pixels? Yes? Good. No? Bad. Kinda? No such thing.

I mean, one could say something similar for rangefinders and other things they made...

Actually, nah, I don't know what I'm saying.

I want to see a comparo. GoPros look like ****ing windsails attached to people. For sports that don't involve becoming a target, they're fine. For paintball, ehh.

GIVE IT AN OPTION TO BE MOUNTED ON A STAND.
That **** would be great. I need a ****ing multipurpose cam.

Y face thing of this is the same idea of recording to start like the roam2 from contour. You slide a bigass switch to start instead oppressing a button and asking if the light is blinking lmao

Okay not trying to flame you but I am not understanding what you are trying to say in that first sentence.

The go-pro's dynamic range will very likely crush this. Wide angle cameras on your barrel will never look all that good anyway.

Here's yet another new entry in the sports camera
field by a firm called Looxcie. Actually they have
several models available, as well as a couple lens
options plus a water tight case. One cool feature
I like is it's ability to link up through your phone
so you can upload clips to facebook, etc. as you're
filming.

http://www.looxcie.com

One more note, just like GoPro they're running
a daily drawing for a complete camera package.
