I played D-Day with some first timers. They all preferred my Tippman 98 over my Geo. They liked the feel of the shot better (more recoil/kick/whatever).

So some people may like a mech marker. Maybe they play so infrequently they don't want to have to worry about batteries? Get get over it.

It's pretty much the same crossover. It's just more toolless now with a on/off ASA and 2-piece barrel

Mech option is awesome! I LIKE playing mech, for similar reasons that I also play pump. Many have requested the J4 Torque be modular, so that it can be converted from electro-to mech-to pump. It is about styles of play rather than performance.

Tippmann has a good idea. Two guns in one. And it is especially nice if a random Saturday I decide to play some rec-woods and forgot to change/bring a battery. The Crossover looks like a great go-to gun for many situations.

I don't think Tippmann has been hawking mech is better "performance" for woods... just maybe more fun.

It is also nice for the people who aren't careful about changing out there batteries frequently. I have probably seen a player (both tournament and recreational) have a dead or low battery about once every 4-5 times I play. As a transitional or "crossover" marker, it is a nice feature that could allow a person to finish a game or even enjoy a day of play.

Very true point. It may sound stupid, but I've ruined some paintball days cause I forgot to bring or change batteries. My last 3-man tournament, the team captain brought AA's and 9v's for each person's rotor and gun.

Of course, I wouldn't be too happy using mech-mode in a PSP format, but the mech-option sounds really, really cool. And being able to switch looks fun. You can enjoy playing mech with less risk of getting mowed when the situation gets tight.... Simply click to electro and start laying balls.

Anyone know if the PSP mode on the Crossover is "true" PSP (including 3-shot and such) or just a "ramping to 12.5" mode?

I believe it is a PSP 3-shot. I don't play PSP so i'm not sure but from just messing with modes it sounded like 3 shot.

To me, playing mechanical has nothing to do with remembering spare batteries.

I like playing mechanical in big games, scenario and rec because it slows down my rate of fire and makes it more challenging to play against people who have electronic semis. I shoot less paint so the paint I do carry lasts longer out on larger woods fields.

Saw the XVR in action this weekend at Hell Survivors for the Tippmann World Challenge. Greg really seemed to love it and lit up a bunch of guys.

This. It helps me conserve paint in big games. If you need the rate of fire, just a flip of the switch away.

I would really like it if the on/off asa, shorter grip and tool-less features came in a kit that I could buy and upgrade my current Crossover. I love my Crossover!!!!! I also own an axe. I like it but the Crossover is just much smoother. I will get my hands on the Virtue Board and the TechT bolt. I also will get a Boss Bolt and a VL frame for my Axe.

New barrels made it significally quieter.

I always thought that too. It's really the one thing holding me back from buying a Crossover.

I have no problem with people liking a mechanical marker. There are a lot of people who prefer the milsim look and feel. None of this exists in the Crossover or XVR despite it's mech option.

The mech feature on this gun is pointless because it's simply a downgrade. I would still regard it as tippmanns only real "high end" gun which as I said I'm happy about.

For those who want to slow their ROF for whatever reason.....check out your board options.
