Those were awesome but no offense it's a bit of a slap in the face at Tippmann not really taking in to account how far they have come regarding a practical speedball marker. The Ebolt was cool, but in no way reasonable or competitive in today's market

Is the low cost clapper solenoid in the XVR more advanced than a true solenoid valve used in today's EP markers?

No but in fairness it gets the job done and is sort of a requirement for this type of design (hybrid electro mechanical). You would have to use this or some sort of similar solenoid plunger-type system that would achieve the same thing. I have seen some mods to pneumags using combinations of plungers/arms and other solenoid parts to achieve the same thing and in fairness there is a small advantage in power savings and size, but I am not sure it would be worth it for the player this gun is marketed towards.

It is low cost for replacement costing around $35 to replace vs $80-$100. With this being geared towards the "transitional" player it was probably more desirable to keep a simple/cost effective design.

If I was going to make something up I'd do better then that. I still give him a hard time about it

Maybe the Tippmann's "cheaper to mass produce" method will start a trend where other companies like PE, Bob Long, Luxe, Empire will offer hybrid as well with a pancake solenoid and customers will benefit from lower pricing on their existing models.

When you say "transitional" player, Tippmann must have foreseen a mass group of transition players before mass producing the XVR. If all the other companies do a hybrid, then the customers have more choices.

Wow a $400 nice gun from Tippmann! Awesome, but pricey! Looks promising though.

thats what i have been stressing to people. Tool-less entry to the internals is so nice to have. Especially to us rec. Ballers.

This gun just has amazing written all over it.

I think we have already seen this with PE with the Etha which can be at least customized to work well for different playing styles.

My main point about the pancake solenoid was that if you had to move a sear (in this case to keep a mechanical option), it is pretty much your only logical option. I think they get a bad rep because they are often associated with blow back guns. Putting one on a gun like this (which shares a ton of mag-like characteristics), works just fine for me.

So if the battery dies in a Etha, can you still shoot it?

you know how many times i've lost battery life during a scenario or xball? 0 times.

Where the mechanical side shines is when your playing a bunch of walk-ons, when your stuck in static long balling shooting in a scenario or when your simply trying to save paint.

To save paint, semi only and single trigger. I see too many players ramp/full auto at games. We are told that that ramping improves the game? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKhe0tYNFak

Paintball manufacturers want you shoot paint not save paint. The electro market killed off almost all the mechs years ago.

It looks promisiing, seems most markers are getting closer to the $1000-$1500 price mark, its going to keep new players from joining, but this could help bring it back down at least a little
