Depends on the field. Many fields say semi only and allow you to play without a cap. Most tournament series use a bps cap of 12.5 no matter what firing mode you are using. Best to ask the field you are playing at though that is something which should have been covered in the "safety briefing" most fields do before they start playing each day and the periodically throughout the rest of the day as well.

It really depends on the field. My field has a no full auto rule. But when we run with "advanced groups"(players who have tournament experience or who have been playing there long enough) we'll talk out our own rules(bps, semi vs psp, bunkering, etc)
Most of the time for playing with walk ons it's considered a courtesy to play at a lower bps(my team plays at 10 bps semi when playing walk ons), and it's considered taboo to play any kind of ramping mode when playing walk ons.

Many fields have different rules on what you can shoot. My local field has these rules for...

open play:
psp ramping- 12 BPS or unlimited BPS semi auto

tournys:
psp ramping only

Another field i play at has same rules for everything, they have it at semi auto only mode and a max BPS of 15. and i also have a field near me that only does semi auto and i believe they have it at unlimited BPS (unless they have changed the rules but that is what it was when i ref'ed there)

it all comes down the the field you are playing on.
