So I have been following the Dmag closely and am soon going to be finishing my A5 to MK5 dmag conversion... This is my second dmag build the first was a MKV. However, I have been less than impressed first with the quality of Tacamos MKV conversion and then with the Dmag conversion for that.
I will start with the mag conversion:
When I opened my mag conversion box I was really excited. It was purchased for a Salvo that had an eframe. I was first immidiately disappointed to realize that my eframe would not fit in the conversions small clamshell grip frame, however undaunted I determined with a 20 round mag 3 round burst and full auto were luxturies I did not need. I found the stock parts and proceeded with the frame assembly. I found the frame almost impossible to assemble and ultimately it cracked and broke in a couple places due to the supplied pins being larger than the holes they are meant to fit in. Shoddy design or construction maybe both... Anyways determined to shoot my gun that day I finished assembly. I was also disappointed to learn that my handgaurd off the salvo would not fit the MKV body that is labeled to work with the salvo without major moddification to the handguard and the body. I patched and held the frame together just well enough that it might shoot once assembeled and got the gun together. It did shoot and the mag fed. So I called Rap4 about the frame and they told me that I was free to purchase another cheap and worthless frame for the low price of 30 + shipping. I said I would pass. Having determined that RAP4 would not support their product I decided to go ahead and do the milling for the handguard and got that attached only complaint there other than the excessive milling required was that the rail on the body is substantially lower than the rail on the handgaurd (which was a similar experiance to the A-5s barrel mounted hand guard compaired to the MK-5 body. I still was not satisfied with the frame so I went to my local proshop on a hunch that perhaps a stock frame off of an a5 or BT gun might work. It turns out a BT-4 frame fits the MKV just fine without modification and works flawlessly, so word to the wise buy a BT-4 frame when you get an MKV conversion (my local proshop does not even sell assembled MKVs with the stock frame they put a BT on). It is so much easier to work with. Anyways when the Dmag conversion came out I bought one for the MKV and installed it.. Again instant disappointment... first the mag well didnt fit the body it was made for... I was forced to shave the well down slightly in order for it to fit the body comfortably. Once on I could not get a d-mag to fit in the well and lock. I was forced to take the insert out of the mag well and cut it down to allow the mag to fit and lock. Which this is a somewhat difficault situation as the mag well will not work if I took to much off it. I got it working and am now happy with its performance but still unhappy with RAP4. Two weeks ago I submitted reviews of both products explaining my exact experiance with both product in a similar way to what you see here only in alittle more detail on the proceedure required to fix their product.... (not rudely) RAP4 has refused to even post the product reviews at this time. Are these reacurring problems for RAP4 custumers or was it just my bad luck of the draw? If that is the level of quality and customer care RAP4 can be expected to give then I thank them for the consepts they distribute but would challenge them to step up on their customer relations and quality control.
