MR5 rear asa project

When I realized I can get well over a 100 shots off a 13/3000 I had to have a tank in stock option on my e-mr5, and since nobody seems to be coming out with one I'm making my own.
I got the rear asa built today, what I did was take a duckbill asa and chop the bill down to one hole. Then I cut down the spyder buffer tube down to what mounts in the bodt and just enough material to fit the short bill in when hollowed out. After getting it all to fit I jb welded the two pieces together and now its rock solid. I have a bolt hole drilled, originally for strength, but it will most likely be used to mount the bar for a tank stock. Next step is to pipe the air out the side of the mag well and run the macroline.

Totally forgot to get pics during the build so all I have is the semi finished product.

Update 8/27/13
Got the air re-routed today... really wish i had a drill press for the hole in the grip, but I didn't butcher it too bad. Air it up took a couple dry shots and no leaks

how it's looking now, I have an fde rap4 tank stock on its way then all I need to fab it a guide for it

Update 9/5/13
Stock on! fabbed up the guide out of some 1/2" think aluminum, doubled it up inside the stock.

I'm done for now...

I'm just going to through this out there, SS or Copper Hardline would look so BAMF of this projects. If you don't play rough or drop it I could see you pulling that off.

edit: because I wouldn't be suprised if peeps forgot about dat old school automag look

Very cool, though with the MR5's valve I'm surprised you're only seeing 100 shots. Have you got an accurate shot count with the 13ci yet?

Oh I get more than 100 shots but I haven't seen how many I can get off an entire tank.

my bad, you'd have to get a solid number from you 13 ci tank first to determine if there would be a noticeable efficiency gain. Best we can compare to is a fenix so any body with a fenix, if you you could chime in on your airtank efficiency #'s plz post.

I figure that if a fenix with a 68ci can pull 1000-1200 shots then a 13ci will get around 200-240 shots. IF your Mr5 already has that efficiency then a reg will not help all that much. There are other benifits to having a reg, but most usually relate to a fast shooting marker not a pillow popper.

I pm'd you a few options that are basically hard availability and use. If anything I'd strongly suggest a SLP ninja reg on your tank IF, <<__notice the "if" in capitol letters, your marker can shoot at the proper velocity.

Iv been trying to find an tank in stock for this marker. These may be dumb questions. I'm pretty new again to paintball and never modded a gun. But what kind of airline and fittings did you use. It looks like the same line and fittings I use for air brake line on trucks. And also how do you remove the trigger frame with your airline there.

The fittings are 1/8 npt macroline fittings. To remove the trigger frame I have to disconnect the macroline at the moment. At some point I want to add a quick disconnect

Just curious. Is the buffer tube hollow? So I should just fill it up with jbweld and stuff the duck bill in there.

Have you played with this yet?

buffer tube is hollow tho you still need to make some room for the asa duck bill, and then fill with jbweld

Nice setup. Gotta ask though… how do you remove the trigger frame now that the air line is 90 right though the plastic side? you would have to have some kind of quick disconnect or have to unscrew that straight 1/8"NPT fitting ever time?

I did something similar and I have to unscrew my fittings if I have to take the grip off. It looks a lot cleaner without more fittings but I would like to add a slide check in mine so I can leave the tank on but turn the air off.

few turns of the wrench and it's off, not 100% ideal, but the marker never required me to tear it down often

Very awesome setup !!!!
I want to do something similar, I want to ask how did you make the ASA ? Did you buy one and glued it on or did you design one from scratch yourself ?

When I did mine I bought a similar Asa and ground not down and used jb weld to make it the same shape as the stock where it slips in the back of the marker
