model 98's do that when they're low on co2. I bet your tank was almost empty. Did you run out of co2 the second time you went to see if the sear would catch? If your tank was full, you either didn't put the sear on right, or the o-ring on your hammer is really bad or missing. 95% of the time this problem is caused by low co2. It's kind of funny. When it happens to a newbie with a rental '98, we yell "Drop the gun and run! Its gonna explode!"

Are you sure you put all the parts back in? You might have left the sear out.

so the ball latch was in backwards?
anyway, loosen the frame screw right beneath the front sight. if you have it too tight it will bind the halves of the receiver together and hinder the movement of the sight/hopper latch.

I can empathize with you. That's like the first thing that happened to me when I first had my model 98. I panicked and thought it was broken too

About the hopper release latch sticking shut... most likely the small rectangalish spring that makes the latch go back up when you push the latch down has come out of place, just make sure you have the spring put in place and it should work fine.

if u wern't low on co2, then u must have hit the cocking knob, or somthing touched it, 4 example, people have rubber bands with squeeges this can touch it & mess u up.
