Probably true. It was sad to see him go after all those years. If paintball had history books, JR would deserve a chapter.

I tried a pair on at the UK warped big game in may 2011 (LiPS paintball had a pair) and to be honest they didn't feel at all nice when on

Even if they were available, they look hard to breathe in. Cool design though with a lot of visibility in mind.

They never were produced. Not a single pair was sold. The only ones out there are the samples that were not destroyed and they should not be used to play paintball (if any even exist).

Sites like ANS and Hustle paintball had them listed adding to the confusion. After I pointed out to Hustle this was misleading, they did change their description to make it clear.

Tippmann did not buy anything from Angel. That was a rumor started by another website that we debunked.

HK did not buy anything from Angel. HK is working on goggles but they have nothing to do with the Angel Eyes. Nothing.

And just because:

I only know of one set out in the wild that is owned by someone who did not work for WDP. His was a gift and it is not for sale at any price.
Would the new owners of the patent not want to license it out to existing goggle makers to bring this to life?

There is no new owner of the patent. The patent is worthless due to its not a safe mask to even use.

How is it worthless? The patent covers the design only not the lens material.

Using the right materials and changing the lens design can make it pass a safety test. Angel fail because the wrong lens plastics were used.

I think they didn't pass ATSM because of the lenses. At certain points of impact the lenses would crack due to the amount of surface they covered.

It obviously wanna just lens material, it was the design of the mask period. Because they said that they would have to do a redesign bc it failed astm, but it was too expensive. If all it was the material of the lens, the they wouldnt have said a redesign was too expensive, they would've just produced a different lens that was a different plastic or thicker plastic.

I believe it wasnt just the lense, but also how the lens was secured in the mask.
When they test them for paintball they use less brittle paint and shoot it at over 400 fps (someone once said they shoot it with a real gun, but then I went and read up on the standards amd thats only if you want the ansi z87 approved). A paintball traveling that fast cpuld easily knock a lens off, and on the Angel eyes there is nothing holding down the top of the lens to keep it from sliding outta place.

You can run a search at the USPTO patent database to confirm. Here's the relevant thread from Nov, 2011 when it was announced the company would be shutting down. Relevant discussion starts here: http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.p...0#post73379990

It's possible Tippmann licensed the patent, I suppose, although I doubt it. It's been nearly 2 years since APS wound down their operations, and nothing from Tippmann has been released or announced that would make use of such a licensing arrangement.
Wow I remember posting that stuff. Been a while since I was in the forums. Did we ever find out what actually happened to APS? Did they go bankrupt? I went looking at one point to try and find records of a bankruptcy but could not. That was some time ago though, and I'm not sure if records of that sort of thing are public in the UK like they are in the US.

Until now I've never taken the time to search. NPF is actually still operating. But here's the UK Companies House corporate record for WDP, Ltd: *edit* I guess you can't direct-link to the company profile, but go here and search for W D P Limited http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk//w...essCompanyInfo. On their company page there's an "Insolvency history" link that indicates it was in administration from Nov. 2011 to Oct. 2012, but wasn't liquidated.

Nifty little tidbit on that page: as has been speculated since time immemorial, WDP definitely stands for "Who Dares Play"

Gonna throw this out there.

Ya know, the company could have just paid off its debts, closed shop and decided to keep the company in name still in good standing till another time.....

Has no real status on the list (being dissolved or otherwise)......
