What should have been the 11th Commandment?

Moses could carry only so many clay tablets.

A philosophical discussion should follow here:

Does your question imply that god made an error in giving Moses 10 commandments, instead of 11?

I wouldn't dare argue with a God about whether or not he made a mistake.

Moses just didn't have paper and pen. The technology of the day was limited.

Seems likely a God would have more things to say. If yes, what might he have said?

Considering it was 3000 years ago, more or less, and we aren't making much progress with #1 much less the rest, maybe He decided not to waste any more of his time... 10 was more than enough.

If that is the case, we are a long term project or He has a lot of patience.

11th commandment should be "Believe what you want, as long as you live a good charitable life, it doesn't matter what god you believe in, or if you believe in god at all."

Simular thoughts:

What is the meaning of life?

You need to leave the World a better place than you found it because you were here...

Better is relative. According to what criteria?

The 11th commandment is an obvious one:
Thou shalt listen to Slayer

Wouldn't that violate the 1st Commandment: "I am the lord your god, thou shalt not have any other gods before me."

"Thou shalt not make up extra commandments or unnecessary formalities"

It seems like there's a lot of "fundamentalist" type Christian sects that have way too many restrictions, and they think it makes them a better group because all these extra rules. really, it just makes them full of hot air and bull crap.

Close, but not quite there.

Whether you believe the 10 Commandments were handed down from God, thought up by a particular religious leader on the spot, or carefully invented by a group of wise community leaders as an early set of laws, they are for the most part just good rules for living in a society. Well, maybe not the first 3, they're kind of deity specific, but after that all pretty darn good ideas for general rules. All kind of boiling down to "Thou shalt not be a douchebag".

Of course as society has gotten bigger, the capacity for douchebaggery has grown with it. So how about...

"Thou shalt not force thy beliefs upon others." That would fix a few problems.
"Thou shalt not consider any other person inferior to thyself." Sort of a catch all anti-racism/anti-sexism clause. The real douchebags will find a loophole (since they don't consider people they don't like to be, well, people), but that's true of any commandment.
"Thou shalt not rape" seems like a fairly obvious omission, but that could fall under both the "no adultery" and "no coveting thy neighbor's wife" commandments.

I've always liked this as a rule of thumb:

"Do as ye will, but harm none lest ye be harmed."

Translation: Do whatever pleases you. Just don't hurt anyone unless they hurt you first.

Wouldn't "thou shalt not force thy beliefs onto others" contradict the entirety of Christianity? Christianity is predicated on being true, not convenient or helpful, but absolutely true. Logically, truth should be spread to every single corner of the globe, with society ordered according to it. People are given the choice of free consent to believe it or not, but that does not make the ordering and maintenance of Christian society and individual life any less paramount.

"Thou shalt not consider any person on inferior to another." Here's the problem, we observe, everyday, clear hierarchies in ability. This recognition does not inherently lead one to disrespecting, maiming or killing any other. Those are the actions you want to address. Willful ignorance is not the answer.
