Simon, I love this idea.

Number one, its cost effective. Number two, it uses common off the shelf components.

I usually use an old revolution when I play pump, and I love the idea of a smaller forcefeed hopper. Halo internals are easy to find and easy to work on.

Hats off to you.

If pump players wanted to use tall big target hoppers, we'd just stick with our Rotors, etc. because for the same profile, 160 rounds is better than 100 rounds just to chop off the nose of the shell. This is why the winchester 50 round hoppers are so popular. As a 20 year+ pump player I'll throw in my 2 cents....

1) The force feed concept for pump players is desired not for pure shot speed like a HALO, ROTOR, SPIRE, etc is for a mechanical semi or electro marker. The real desire is for a CONSISTENT feed to always have a shot. Nothing sucks more than having to shake and bake to get a round to drop...or worse, NOT have a paintball chamber and shoot blanks. This may allow for a less sophisticated mechanism that could yield a much smaller hopper. Heck, the rip drive mechanism alone on a winchester sized hopper could be wonderful!

2) Lower frontal profile (i.e. not tall) is far more desireable than a taller hopper. Maybe cutting the height of the shell but leaving its length would provide a better solution. Maybe something where 2/3 of the top of the shell is a speed feed with teeth so that rather than dumping a 50 round pod in hole which requires height to disperse the balls, an oblong "dump track" would disburse the paintballs by moving the pod along the larger opening.

3) Lower feed neck heights. With a smaller lower profile hopper shell, less feedneck is need to secure hopper to marker as there is less torque and torsion to cause it to fling off, I think a unique innovation would be a form of RECESSED feedneck in which the non-paintball space of the shell, motor, batteries, etc. could be under the nose of the hopper or directly behind the feedneck, maybe sorta incorporating the marker feedneck INTO the shell rather that plopped on top of it as all hoppers currently are.

4) A power source that is much smaller than 9v or AA batteries. Since feed speed is not near the 30 bps of a Rotor/Spire/Prophecy etc...maybe something using a single AAA or even some of the Lithium camera batteries would save weight and make a tiny package.

5) Not a hopper suggestion, ...BUT....how about a barrel kit or barrel backs usable with other barrel tips..that has a clear window in the breech? As most all pump markers are closed bolt, its always a PITA when you have a ball chambered, run and slide somewhere and puff air at people because your ball rolled out and you didn't know. If you had a window in the breech of the barrel back, om most markers you could see the ball in there and know you have one in the pipe...just a thought.
Agreed 100%
This hopper looks amazing but its to tall!

Giving this away for free is pretty awesome. I see it's as small as possible using HALO guts, but wonder if it's possible to get the profile lower using something simpler like the spyder fasta / cheapo agitated hoppers.

When I get a chance I'll get a 3D printed quote from shapeways. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty expensive though because of how large it is...

How tall the loader is is throwing me off, is there anyway to elongate the design reducing how tall the loader will be?

Either way awesome concept and I'll be looking forward into trying it out.

Ouch - Have just run the model through shapeways. For those without access to a 3D printer, this place is probably the best way to get things printed.

Prices for the two halves of the shell (without the battery door and rip drive):

$188 for white (Low detail)
$233 for black (Low detail)
$480 for black (high detail)

(And for $1314 you could have it printed in actual gold. )

Prices for 3D printed goods are dropping fairly quickly though so this will probably change soon.

I'd actually rather see it use something like EggII internals... That way, you can incorporate the feedneck into the shell design, lower profile, etc..

Simon, THANK YOU for doing all this.

Simon, this made my night.
I just got on to your site yesterday for the first time and I'm really excited to see what you do.
Conceptually, I dig everything you are doing to expand tthe community and the potential products available.

Now, right now it looks like 3D printing by shapeways is a little expensive per individual right now.

Also if we could get the shell made out of the same material as the revvys then I'm sold.

100rnds you say? force feed you say? ugly? i think it's been done

i know i sound negative and i am but i do think this is a very big step in the right direction for pump hoppers so thank you i see the hopper i want being made within the next year or so. and i will be stopping by at living legends to see this in person.

Simon I love the idea. I've been epoxy-ing SportShots and Halo TSAs together to make a reliable small hopper. I see the issue with designing new parts. Here is a twist: why not design and 3D print a new catch cup? Shorten up the bottom half by cutting the feedneck down, while I know its kind of important to have space for a stack I don't see it feeding poorly. Then lower the sides of the top half, allowing you to bring the paintball holding area lower and then allowing you to bring the actual shell lower also. I like the idea of using Eggy internals but those aren't as aplenty as Halo parts which makes sense as to why you designed it this way. Another idea would be to design a shell to not hold the board and batteries, just the catch cup. You showed in your video using the rip drive and spring feed allow feeds ~15-20 balls (of course varies based on marker and Halo interals) but it would allow a huge decrease in weight and I think a little in height. Hell I need to download a modeling program and get to work.

Simon, I have one question.

Are you planning on selling these shells? I don't even have a Halo or anything based on it but I'd love to get a Halo at some point and get my hands on one of these shells for curiosity sake.
