DM Water Damage

I'm thinking about buying a dm 12 that was thrown into a pond and retrieved. i was wondering what would need to be replaced. the price was 400 and i was just wondering if it was a good deal.

If it was in the pond for a brief period, it could be anywhere from no damage to a damaged board, eyes and solenoid. If it was left wet for longer, you are almost certain to have electrical damage as well as some screw and spring washer corrosion.

]

as he said ^ but springs/screws/shims etc are nothing compared to the other parts needed

depends how long it was in pond... most likely will need

new noid

new eyes

new board

everything else is cosmetic and can be fixed.

Honestly, I can fix this up for you if you do buy it

used noid 55-60 bucks

new eyes 15-25 bucks

new board 35-50 bucks

tech\clean\tune/lube serivce 20-25 bucks

about a 150 dollar repair give or take

guns worth 550-700 so

I think you got a deal.

If you are pretty knowledgeable, should be an easy, cheap fix

Or if you want to fix it quick with one purchase, you could buy the large DM rebuild kit from Dye. Should have everything you need plus some. It would make the repairs on the higher-priced end of grss' estimate.

take those electronics. put them in a bowl of rice if they're still wet. same thing that is recommended for people who drop their phones in water.

My old roommate's little brother pissed himself once with his phone in his pocket after a night of partying. Phone was damaged with fluids so he put it in a ziplock baggie full of my rice. Although I was furious with the gross misuse of rice, I was impressed with how effective it was in restoring the phone to working order.

Rice is only effective at 65 celsius or up (thats why we boil water and rice), before that it wont absorve humidity. Instead of rice use some bags for humidity removal.

The solenoid has lots of very fine copper wire inside. If water got in and stayed there long enough to cause corrosion, then it would probably need to be replaced. You can measure the resistance through the coil to determine it's condition.
