DM 13 Smoothness help

So I let some friends shoot the dm13, and they all said its not smooth at all, they wouldn't buy it, the reflex is smoother.
I know they just said it out of jealousy, but will it get smoother when it's broken in?

I'd say that while it *may* be possible for it to become smother when broken in. I'd rely on changing the settings slightly to achieve the smoothness you desire. This is done by changing the dwell and LPR. From stock settings I would change the dwell from 18 to 21 and the LPR from 4.5 to 3-3.5 (increase Dwell, Lower LPR = less efficiency, but more smooth/less kick). These are the settings I run in my guns and many pros have been running for years

*Many say that breaking in a gun will make it smoother. However, I say it may because most movement in the dye matrix is guided by greased o-rings and not metal/plastic on metal, which does usually smooth out over time

if you have the patience and a good enough quantity of orings then I suggest hand fitting all your rings. you would be amazed how much smoother DM's shoot if you hand all the rings that matter (bolt sail, 2 rings on bolt tail, frontwall internal can ring, trailing internal tophat ring)

Not all rings are identical and sometimes you will find that you may end up using a different sized ring than specified. You want the least amount of drag yet retain a seal.

Just wanted to point something out from my personal experience with my brand new DM11. When I bought it and got it in I set things up according to the manual. When I started shooting it, I was not at all impressed. It was not smooth at all. So I began doing some research. What I found was that according to the manual the LPR needed to be set 4 turns out. I bought a pressure tester for my reg and set it at @ 140. It was shooting well over 300 fps. Long story short.....the manual says there are 11 shims in the LPR. Mine has 13. That means I do not need to screw my LPR as far out. So now it runs 1.5-2 turns out at stock dwell 18 ms and I believe it is super smooth.

^ To confirm alot of the dm11's were like that, with the extra shims, some however do not have them (I have 2 dm11's one has them one does not).

Like others have said. Breaking it in will lead to a smoother and more consistent gun. That's why polishing the bolt or getting a bwing bolt is so popular bc it has a smoother surface and simulates a fully broken in dm bolt.

As for settings; bump dwell up to 21 and get lpr as low as possible wothout issues. In order to achieve this, first start off by slowly turning the lpr in until you feel a slight change in resistance(while the gun is depressurized). Then air up gun, bolt will shoot foward. Now slowly back out the lpr. You will notice the bolt start to suck back. Once the bolt fully sucks back, you can back out the lpr another 1/4-1/2 turn. This should be the lowest possible lpr setting without any issues.

Did this with my DM11 and it shot ultra smooth. Virtually no kick, low nice smooth sound and shot so nice I still dream about it lol.

Another tip... paint to bore plays a "minor" role in this as well.

Personally i do not think the Billy Wing bolt upgrade is worth it. Rather spend that money on field fees, paint, and beer. Just adjust your settings to where you feel the marker is shooting its best. The better you know your marker, easier it is to make adjustments. GL
