Axe Barrel Questions?

Hello PbNation,

To start I apologize for "another" barrel thread. Please bear with me; I have a couple noob questions.

- The Axe is autococker threaded, right? So I can buy any autococker threaded barrel as a replacement?

- I'm looking at either getting the two different bore sized Lurker barrels OR possibly purchasing a barrel kit like the Freak. I remember back in the day the Freak was the kit of choice, but in my recent research I have heard that the Freak kit may not be as good as before. I’ve read about a Deadlywind barrel of some sort as well..? I also play pump and would like to be able to use whatever barrel I purchase for that gun as well. Right now I have a Phantom pump (stock barrel) but am planning on upgrading to an autococker type pump in the near future. Considering I'll be playing with both the Axe and an autococker pump what would you go with? I'm hoping I can go with just the two different bore Lurker barrels because of cost, but do not value $$$ saved over performance.

PS - I live/play in Southern California (LA) as a reference for weather conditions.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Lurker, if you like 1 piece barrels

CP 2 piece if money is tight

Freak kit if money isnt am option. Everyone bagged on the product during the anti Smart Parts days and some have had issues with the inserts not being the size stamped, but I have used this barrel ever since it came out and haven't had this issue yet so to me it's more anti Smart Parts propaganda.

Check out a sniper barrel. It's a longer inner bore. It comes in .005 steps. It's cheaper than most barrel kits.

I play a Deadly Winds Fiber that takes Freak inserts. It's a carbon fiber barrel that's Autococker threaded. I like it as a light weight barrel.

As long as you dont mind having a Grey barrel kit and the kit is 150.00, same as a full freak kit, only with less options....

You can look for a used Deadlywind with insets on here for around 100 which is a good price. A Deadlywind is a carbon fiber barrel that accepts the freak inserts. I have one on my Axe it shoots very well

I have a DW Fibur carbon fiber barrel with a SS freak kit. It shoots well enough, but I prefer the Lurker barrels better due to the sound. The DW barrel has a much crisper crack to it that I don't like.

My recommendation, especially since you are just starting out would be to grab the Lurker or the CP barrels. Later, if you find yourself needing more options, or if you see a great deal on one, you can grab a freak kit.

Is there a difference between the Smart Parts Freak Kit and the Empire Super Freak kit? Also, what is the difference between the different barrel tips; All American Vs. Freak?

Thank You!

The smart parts freak has more inserts and different bore sizes than the empire. The smart parts lets you get a better bore match. There isn't really any difference in performance of the tips just looks

Actually, the difference in the two is mainly sound, the All American has larger ports and this makes it quieter on the receiving end. Plus, the Empire Super Freak is measured in .005 increments, whereas the original is usually .002, making it more versatile. Aesthetically, the Super Freak is a gloss finish, while the regular Freak is dust, but older versions did come in gloss and chrome/stainless as well.

I use the original and have for years, preferring the All American over all, but it is a pain to clean on the field.

Found this black Freak Kit on sale for $129.95. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Like I said you should try to look into a used DW with freak kit. I love the DW if not then 130 for new is ok.

Thanks Doomsday - unfortunately the $130 price was an Easter Sale that got taken off the site the morning after I posted that lol. I asked them if I could still access the deal with no luck. I'm going to look into a used Deadlywind like you suggested.

Good plan. If you aren't in a rush you may be able to wait a bit and find one with the inserts for around $100 I've seen them go for about that. Good luck in your hunt
