different game variations for woodsball?

ok to switch it up playing woodsball, what do you guys do to change it up a bit?

sometimes we will play with a hopper only with no pods or harnesses

was thinking also about playing "protect the president" - one guy on the team is the "president" and he hangs in the back field at base and he only has a pistol and

what else you do you guys do to change it up a bit?

capture the flag, president as you stated, ironman (one or 2 guys that can get hit as many times until he gives up, or shoots everyone on the other team one),

"Iron Man"- You can get shot and play on. You pretty much call yourself out when you can't handle the pain anymore!

"Attack and defend"- One team can't go past a certaint point (has to stay on 1/4 of the field) and the other team has to reach their base

Another version is English Warfare. 10 v 10, 3 shots each, line up 30 feet apart, just like the civil war/revaluation war.

One great game that keep people active is if you have both team start on either end of the field and at the end the team controlling a central bunker or 'base' wins.
If you are playing many games you can have wins earn an advantage for the next game. Like an extra pod of paint or a respawn at the starting base for a player or two. You have to keep teams balanced if you play this way.

Another good game is to play an attack/defend game where both teams have the same amount of players but the team that is attack the base can respawns a couple of times and the team in the base has no respawns.

There was a field I used to play at that had a game I loved...it's usually how they would end the day (since it was awesome at making sure you ran out of paint).

The game as called "renegade".

They had about 20 different color arm bands to mark teams. The game would start with 3 or 4 teams (depending on how many people) starting at various locations on a *huge* field (basically, the entire facility).

You go out and hunt the other teams. The only folks on your side are the folks with you, you are always outnumbered. When folks come off the field dead, as soon as there's 3 dead people, they pick a new color armband and make a new team and go back out. Now the only folks on your side are the 2 guys with you.

It was always fun and intense....you'd get 3, 4 and 5 way firefights. It's awesome.

You keep playing until folks decide they've had enough.

We sometimes play a game type we call Alamo where teams have a 3:1 ratio. The smaller team gets inside a fort/castle and cant leave it. They must defend it as long as they can against the larger team with unlimited respawns

Bomb scenario : each team has to bring their bomb (bottle, or plastic tank) to a special spot in opposite team starting area. Funny, because you have to stop the attack but also attack and succeed in your goal.

Sometimes I play games in the woods where one team has rubber knives only and no markers. They have to escape the other teams "camp" undetected. Players touched by a knife are eliminated and standard rules apply for the team with guns.

Freeze tag is interesting, basically the player that's hit is frozen until his teammate tags him back in.

I heard of an interesting one today, Musket Ball. No hoppers, and you have to carry your paint in one pocket. Each shot has to be hand loaded one at a time.

Ive been running a great variation on center flag that's been a hit with everyone, refs and players alike. One flag in the center of the field of course with respawns on. You have to get the flag and push it into the other teams base, not bring it back to your own. This makes a constant front line of battle. However once a team is in possession of the flag, the other team can no longer respawn. If the flag carrier is shot out, the flag is dropped and everyone in the dead box comes back. Perfect for medium size groups (14 to 18)

I have 2 games I introduced as a ref to my local field.

1. "Sabotage" - We put a big inflated exercise ball (the big ones people use to sit on...) out in the center of the field. We set a time limit of usually 4-7 minutes. The object is to get and keep the ball on the opponents side of the field. They can kick it, throw, punch it, shoot it, or run with it. All it has to do is be across the 50 yard line and whichever side the ball is on at the end of the game, that team LOSES. We play with and without respawn depending on amount of people and willingness to blow thru paint...

2. "Territories" - We set up flag stations on the field. They are removable PVC posts about 10 feet tall. They have a rope pulley with 2 flags on it. You pull one down and the other flag goes up. Again we set a time limit. Usually 6-8 minutes. Object: at the end of the time limit whichever team has the most of their flags raised wins. You can set as many flag stations on the field as you want. We generally have 3. All lined across the 50 yard line. But we have fields with as many as 7 stations. And again depending on amount of people and paint they have, we will play with or without respawn.

This is a great way to get beginner players who tend to camp in the back to get up and involved in the game.

I make little scenarios for our field, each team gets the rules, and has objectives to complete, and they have to do something by the rules. Fun games.

Here is video of one of those games.

Here is video of revolutionary war. Fun game, very stressful...

Here is a game we invented called "fieldball". Where you take a small field and let the grass/weeds grow up during the summer, then cut paths in it zig zagged every 15 feet, with a large circle around the outside, and have one entrance on each side, the goal is to kill all the opposing team members, or capture their flag. They are doing the same. Very fast paced game, and really fun!

same here. 90 minute games. endless spawn. 5 missions - one every 15 minutes... but the game is non-stop.

and we play : no pods, no pads, no batteries.

many of the missions have a demo guy with a bag full of fire crackers... he has to "blow up" the objective with the fire crackers to complete the mission...and a 90 second time window to complete each mission. Ill usually take a few smoke grenades to spice things up as the mission time closes.

recent games: hunger games w/ 4 teams... pacts allowed... fighting for weapons, food, and to secure key locations.
clear and present danger - rangers w/ demo vs larger cartel... blowing up drug labs on timed missions.
coming soon: walking dead - two equal human teams w/ conflicting missions fighting for food, weapons, and a cure for the zombie plague...w/ infectious sneaky zombies on the field.

the days usually start around 10a and we play a hand full of quick fast paced games until everyone is ready and then play the 90 minute game at noon. then take a break. then play a few of the crowd favorites. then some close easy ones as the numbers dwindle down.
