Cleats...are they worth it?

I'm a casual player thats beginning to get more into the speedball tournament scene, and have been using some cheap running shoes for the past few months.

With a tournament coming up in the next couple of weeks, I'm looking to get new shoes (obviously cleats), but was wondering what everyone's opinion is on what the most economical choice is. I have looked at the Exalt and HK Army cleats, and they definitely seem decent, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend that kind of money just yet. And some reviews on them are saying that they don't really last very long at all.

What are other options that most people use? Soccer, baseball, football? Anyone have suggestions for brands that they feel is the best "bang for the buck"?

Yeah, you can get some nice Nike Land Sharks for a good deal. Cleats are worth it, but spending alot of money on something that you are not totally sure if it is what you want to do isn't.

They're worth it. Pick up a pair of clearance nike soccer cleats. They work great on all surfaces

I wear Nike Mercurials (soccer).

You'll DEFINITELY notice a difference when you trade up from running shoes. Your moves will be more explosive, you'll get better traction to run faster, and you'll be able to stop on a dime most of the time.

I use Nike sharks. I love them. Comfortable and no matter how wet or muddy it gets my feet stay dry. Nobody enjoys running in wet shoes.

I actually just got nike land sharks for $15 at Ross. They are so damn comfortable I wish they made them as sneakers too lol and they give the turf a hug every time you step. I wouldn't mind paying full price

i found a pair of rawling baseball cleats, plastic spikes, at a local sports place for twenty bucks. best purchase of my paintball career. lot of indoor fields are so slippery and when i had these on i didnt slip or slide at all.

worth every penny. I used to play in my old football cleats and the guaranteed traction is worth not being in running shoes.

Type of cleats really depends on your playing surface.
Also, I agree with everyone else here. Don't get HK/exalt.
Go to ross or marshalls or big 5 or an outlet store and get cleats from a reputable manufacturer at less than 1/2 the price.

Thanks for the idea's everyone. I ended up going to Ross and getting a pair of Nike cleats for $15. I used them while running drills the other day, and I could never go back to running shoes...

I use older Dye ATCs when I'm speedballing, great design that protects the laces, but unfortunately they're not made anymore

If I had to get another type, I'd probably snag some Nike Land Sharks mids.

For woods play I wear old combat boots, great ankle support and good traction. I hate getting leaves in my shoes =)

Go with soccer or baseball cleats. They tend to hold up better on the turf and walking in gravel to and from the field. You'll get better traction with the larger cleats over the soft grass cleats on the exalts/hk which have the tendency to retain dirt/paint or simply break off over time.

Yep just buy some cleats from academy or someplace. Just be careful with soccer cleats. It's really easy to roll an ankle so if your anything but a small front player some mid length cleats would work best

Cleats make a huge difference, you'll be faster on the go and coming to a stop. Plus, you'll slip and fall on your *** alot less, which helps kuz falling on your tailbone hurts like a mofo.

Cleats are the best. The only time i've had trouble in mine were playing at smart parts factory indoors with astro-turf. But I think we were all sliding around at that tourney.

(I think I just dated myself with that reference)
