Her surgery is gonna happen one way or another. It's just friggin pathetic to see how the whole medical system works or doesn't now. I can get over the embarrassing effects of bankruptcy cuase I genuinely DGAF what people think.
Also the goodness the laws in Fl somewhat protect the individual from he creditors. I own my house and after 3.5 yeras of occupancy they cannot come after the equity.
Don't get me started on the health "Care" system
Ironically, the best care I'd ever received was at NIH. A govt run facility where I didn't have to pay to services because I was in clinical trials.
But best of luck to you both in her surgery.
We ended up giving up on our house. We didn't like much anymore (I think it was just jaded from having to deal with the mort co) and they mort co ROYALLY dicked us over. We bought in 2005 with an ARM. A few years later my wife reworked the mort with the co and they gave us a steady rate. It knocked our payments way down which was great however every couple of months they'd contact us via FedEx and expect us to give them our most recent financial info. We asked why they kept needing it and they said that the person we "were working with" had "left the company" and another person is now working on it blah blah blah and it was never "Technically finalized" but we were to keep paying the new amount. This kept happening for about 2 years til we finally didn't hear from them anymore and assumed it'd FINALLY been finalized.
THEN I come home one day we get mail that they're foreclosing followed soon after by a sheriff's sale notice. We asked wtf was going on and they said, we'd never sent them our latest info and they considered us default and wanted the difference between what we were paying NOW and what we used to pay....plus late fees and lawyers fees, of course amounting to close to $40,000 in one lump sum. Mind you, we'd never received the documents they claimed to have sent. And conveniently, they told us they were sent first class USPS instead of FedEx that last time. Over the next year or so they basically dicked us around saying they'd help and then withdrawing it for no reason time after time til we said, "**** it, **** you, Take the ****ing house."
Strange that they were upset about it.
