Boss Bolt Nightmare

I recently bought a boss bolt infamous edition to try on my invert mini. I installed the bolt and went to recommended settings on packaging of Dwell at 3ms, short spring from the three spring kit nad back cap at 1.5 turns out.

OMG Nightmare.

Not sure what I did wrong, but I was shooting ballpark 140 fps, and I say ballpark because I was +/- 15!

I had a different bolt, not sure if it was the stock or not as I got the marker used. I had the marker shooting at 280 with the adjustments as follows:

Input pressure at 215 (WTF?!)
Dwell at 7ms
Back cap at 1.25 turns out
Spring off of original bolt, longer that any in boss kit

I am going to try to use a tuning method from the stickies but if anyone has ideas why I was soooooo far off I could use the info, I am newer to the invert mini tuning.

Not sure how I F'd this up sooo much so any/all help is greatly appreciated.

I debated buying the boss, still unsure. Minimag on here was very high on it so maybe he can help you out, I am interested to see how this turns out. Hopefully you are shooting good soon!

Also, you are listed in Lincoln, you play at Cj's ever?

I couldn't get my infamous bolt to work right no matter what I tried even with boss' s suggestions. Mines getting sent back in to get checked out. He said it may be out of spec

Well im not sure whats the difference between the boss bolt infamous edition and the regular boss bolt V2.. but i installed for the first time this past weekend with the V2.. dwell at 3, psi left at 200, and 1.5 turns.. i was shooting between 189-195 the whole day. Oh and i was using their medium spring. No problems here.

Your post is kind of scattered and hard to follow.

To clarify with the BOSS BOLT your settings were:
Short spring
Dwell: 3ms
Back cap: 1.5 turns out
Pressure: 150psi? (didn't see it listed)

Result: 140fps +/-15

With the stock/unknown bolt your settings were:
Stock spring
Dwell: 7ms
Back cap: 1.25 turns out
Pressure: 210psi?

Result: 280fps

I am inclined to say to try the boss bolt again and make sure it isn't dragging on the bolt guide orings. Make sure the rear bolt oring is smaller than the one in front of it (should be the same size as the bumper). Set the backcap to 1.5 turns out, set the pressure to ~160psi leave the dwell stock and see what you get. If it is low velocity then I think you're likely still binding on the bolt guide.

Also, I didn't see it mentioned, but since you have a mini what version is the poppet?

Are you using the stock barrel? Have you ever cleaned and lubed the poppet?

I had the psi set at 140 as per starting settings from boss, sorry I didn't mention that. I have cleaned and lubed the bolt and guide, I have not touched the poppet but I will tonight. Also, I have figured some things out about the mini. The bolt was the delrin Techt MrT with stiff spring from Techt kit and the mini is the "Storm" edition, not sure what version that is. Shooting a stiffi .685 barrel with GI 2 star paint.

Last time I shot GI 2 star it was about .677 so I had to use a .675 barrel. Let me know how easy you can blow your paint thru your .685.

My XSV bolt works great with 140psi 3ms dwell and the short spring. My buddy got an infamous bolt but he removed the spacer off the bolt which caused his Axe to be inconsistent. If you removed the spacer or Oring that is located on the front section of the bolt this will cause issues with the smaller spring.

I opened the Baggie it came in, lubed the orings and the sides of the bolt tip and dropped on the guide with short spring and base settings on package. Do I need to lube the spacer maybe? could that make this dramatic of a situation arise?

Spacer or bumper? Lurker bolts use a spacer; boss use a bumper.

Bumper then. The loose ring around the bolt, lube that bear?

Were you underboring at all? Or was it roling out with no effort at all?

I am a huge lurker barrel fan... Underboring. What board do you have out of curiosity?

I have a seventh element board installed and I have a lurker .678 barrel that I hate, I generally shoot my stiffi .685 as slight overbore, light, sturdy to scratching and quiet! Also hits consistent with the paints I use. I lubed the whole bolt and guide AND poppet, used the boss short spring and dry fired through two tanks at 10 bps and near max dwell. Figured to help break in the spring a bit.

.685 is more of a paint to bore match, which will yield horrible consistency with the Boss bolt. I use my .678 for thicker shelled paint in the winter and it works great. I know Boss recommends underboring when using his bolts.
