Tie game rule

I've seen a quiet a few teams showing they actually tied on APPA. Whats the rule with this and how does it effect the brackets?

Not sure about brackets, but teams have a 3 minute OT in pre-lims and if no one scores, it's a tie. Playoffs, they do an OT point (not sure if it's longer, can't remember) and if no one scores, then they do a shoot out, 5 1v1s.

they do NOT run an OT point in prelims, at least not in d1 xball

....I feel like if the 3 min OT point goes null they should go to 1 v 1 and determine a winner. It seems like the current policy encourages teams to not be aggressive at all, leading to a tie. A tie is as good as a loss and causes problems for brackets if multiple ties occur like I see right now...just a thought.

Ties are good for no one. Everyone should be playing to win

There was an onsite rule change that made it so there were no overtime points in prelims for divisional.

I believe if no me wins OT they have a shoot out at the end of the day after all games. I guess to eliminate the hour long overtimes like World Cup 2012!

They should play "Iron Man"... Players are only out if they cannot take being shot anymore. Front players need to load up at least 8 pods!

There was not. No O/T during prelims for divisionals was in the original 2013 rulebook. The on-site "change" was clarifying that the O/T remains sudden-death.

RaceTo-7 does one 3-minute overtime in prelims then it's a tie; all divisions have a 3-minute overtime in playoffs then go to the shootout.

why was this rule decided? we couldn't get a few minutes to break the tie even in prelims? seems like the entry fees stay the same or go up, we play less paintball. less bang for the buck...

My b. saw it in my rule book as well as the dummary of changes. I just specifically rememberred seeing it on the handout they gave us at the event and said they were changes/clarifications as of that morning.

OT games have a tendency to go long. Previously it was an unlimited amount of time and there have been some that went for more than ten minutes. It creates a scheduling issue, especially in the prelims where there isn't much room for delays.
