New Gun?

Im thinking about getting back into paintball and that means buying a new gun.

I have been looking at the Etek 3.

Is that a good choice, and what would be a suitable hopper and tank, that is not breaking the bank.

Break the bank means different dollar figures to different people. What your budget? Do you already have a mask, potentially pod pack/pods, etc?

No more than $300 on a marker. I know a good size tank will cost atleast $135. I do not have a mask, gun, hopper, pod, or pod pack. If there is anyway to get it all under $300 (not possible i know.) then that would be awesome. If not the budget is $300 for a marker.

You could find an ion, halo hopper, and used carbon fiber tank for that. A well maintained ion is a solid marker and will keep up with just about anything. Tons of upgrades. Parts are cheap. They are easy to unload when your ready to upgrade. Good luck.

How are the ions compared to a dangerous power g4 or Porto rail? Or is there something else to look at? I can't find and etek 3 at a low price or any etha s

Like the above poster said, ions are pretty damn solid for their price! Dangerous Power G4s are not my favorite, but aren't bad for their price either.

Proto Rails from 2005-2008 were VERY solid IMO. You can actually find some of those really cheap as well. Just make sure you get some good lube, those bolts like to stick!

Good luck!

I have the option to buy a 2010 PMR and a 2005 PMR which would be the best?

The reason I am leaning towards proto, is because I had one before I quit paintball. I would then go with a Crossfire 68/4500 tank (http://www.ansgear.com/Crossfire_SS_...nk68hpgrey.htm) Is that a good choice?

With a Halo too hopper.

Is that a good set-up?

But I am still open to the AXE and Dangerous Power.. Any help is appreciated.

For 300$ a Proto rail is the way to go; smooth, quiet, durable and lightweight. Hopper wise for that same gun, an invert too is always a good "get the job done" hopper

Pmr

Go for the 2010 PMR. In 2010 they came stock with the UL frame I believe. Also, parts (i.e. Solenoid) are going to be easier to get because it is a more recent gun.

I just bought a used PMR 08 SE. It may take some time to adjust everything so don't panic if all isn't right when you fire it up. For instance, air was leaking out of the back on mine. It turned out that the reg wasn't turned up high enough to regulate. Then, I turned the reg up and air started leaking from the center of my gun. I thought I blew a solenoid. It turns out that I had it creanked too high and it dissappeared when I turned it down. The solenoid was fine but you don't want to make a habit of not having the reg set right.

This place gives great support if you have any trouble.

Is a 2011 for $200 a good price?

Also found a 2010 for $265 if that is the route to go.

And should I get the 2010 or do you recommend another marker?

Or should I open up, bite my lip and buy an AXE?

I recommend finding an axe on the forums for $300.
A drone or pm8 or proton wouldn't hurt either if you can find them for that price.
Hopper- Snag a used v3 rotor off the forums as well <$100
Tank you should be able to find a 68/45 for $100 on here.

This all rounds about $500, and thats more than you want to spend I understand but with this youll be at a good level of quality gear where you wont feel the urge to upgrade as much.

an etha would be an excellent choice. They run 400 new but you could find a great used one for 200-300. Nothing short of a quality tournament gun right there. AS for a hopper I would say to go with the halo too. cheap and can keep up with a gun like the etha. a pod pack and pods will be around 50.

As it is really hard to find an used axe, or etek 3, what should I do?

The proto matrix rail new on dye's site is only 249.95.

I have no clue what to buy...

I have a proton sitting on my desk right now, not a bad little gun. I would recommend it.

I have read up on the Dangerous Power g4, and found alot of bad things about it. I looked up the Empire Axe's and found alot of good things, but they are hard to find to buy used. I also looked up Smart Parts ION and to me they just seem like a very non reliable cheap gun. The Etek 3 Seems like a great gun, but is very very hard to find used under $250. Also what is the big different in buying a Etek 3 and an Etek 3 LT?

Any ideas?

People who struggle with ions are the ones that do not maintain them. Shoot a nice one and you will be surprised. I have owned at least 10. I enjoy fixing them up. The most difficult part of owning one is gaining access to the bolt. If you get an ion xe it has the quick bolt out of the back system which is much nicer. You can pick one up for around $120. Used axes are out there but you will spend your entire budget just on a marker. So if your looking for the complete setup, you will not find a better speedball marker for the $100-150 range that beats the ion. If you we're local I'd let you use one for a day.

Sorry for all of the posts, but I think I have narrowed it down to the Etek 3, Etek 3 LT, and or a Empire AXE.

Yes or no? Which one would you recommend?

The Etek is loud and shoots way worse than anything else in the price range. Dangerous Power guns are known for leaking and having other problems right out of the box.

$275 is a really good price on an Axe, otherwise a used eXTCy, Rail, or Ion would be a good choice.
