you need a lot more than just a locking lid. they will snake through your filtration or any tiny gap they can. the tank literally needs to be air tight (or have no holes the size of their beak or larger.
if you want to find out if there are any openings in your set up just get an octopus, they will find it. i read a story on MFK of a guy w/ an octopus tank and a tank of fish and stuff across the room. the tank with the fish started having fish disappear. turns out one of the octopi got out, crawled across the floor and climbed into the other tank and was eating everything in it.
