Edit: No.
I don't know about that. I didn't need any license or background checks to buy the fabric. It's actually a carbon-kevlar hybrid fabric. All carbon weave from top to bottom and all kevlar weave from side to side. Given the super thin structure (my parts have the same stiffness as aluminum and are only a few millimeters thick) it wouldn't do you much good. I'm using my 07 R1 as a test bed for the products, so it would probably be easier to run than to find out how it stacks up against bullets haha. 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

Gotcha, curiosity just got the best of me.
And, as far as I know, most states allow body armor (soft and hard) to be purchased without a license or background check. They cannot be sold to an overseas market, though.
Most people flip out when they realize you can buy bullet resistant material without a license/background check. What they do not realize is that most people say "bullet proof", which is a misnomer. Nothing is really "bullet proof", just resistant, especially in close quarters. Now, a level 4 plate (very expensive) will stop handgun rounds all day long at less than 10ft. The person on the receiving end will be in a lot of pain, though. lol
And at 10ft, a head shot renders armor useless anyways

It made me curious too. I don't plan on getting in any gunfights anytime soon so that's one question I won't have an answer for. I would expect the hybrid fabric to do well against knives and small shrapnel if formed with sufficient thickness (tons of fabric layers) but I'd put money on it that a bullet would rip right through.

For slashing, and glancing blows possibly. Working EMS in Niagara Falls, it is almost mandatory you wear some sort of bullet/stab protection. My partner's Lvl III vest didn't stop the SOG Seal PuP he got stabbed with. I'm not entirely clear on the differences between stab vests and bullet resistant vests, but they both say they do not provide protection against the other

BRV
"This product does not provide protection against pointed weapons"

Stab vest
"This product provides no ballistic protection"

Interesting!

Edit: looking at your location, I'd rethink the gun fight statement. You wouldn't get into a "fight" because thanks to your idiot lawmakers, you no longer have the right to own a handgun. But somehow all the criminals do.
Brb, wouldn't step foot in Chicago ever
Brb, if I had to it.would be with Lv 4 vests

yeah, it's odd. Stab vest are usually a little cheaper...so if you have to go that route, that's good.
Or you could just go with steele plates. Pretty sure they are stab resistant? Lol

woke up 2 hours before i needed to today.... so i decided to be semi productive and finish my damn headlights.
who ever designed the front of a civic needs to be kicked in the dick..... 2 low beam bulbs you gotta go through the wheel well, driver side high beam/driving light you take out the radiator overflow reservoir, passenger side high beam you can get without removing anything...

I think it has something to do with the weave and density. Remember that my pieces are infused with resin. They're hard. A bullet would hit with enough force to crack it and induce failure. A knife not so much.

Actually, federal court finally struck down the bull**** gun laws here and told them in no uncertain terms that Illinois has until June to pass laws that do not infringe on our rights, or the state will automatically become a constitutional carry region (meaning you can carry anything you want without a permit). I always thought it was silly to have the FOID program and bans on concealed carry. I go to school in Indiana and they let high school kids buy guns here. In Illinois I could buy enough alcohol to induce fatal poisoning but I can't buy a gun to take to the range twice a year without waiting two months for a permit.

Great response

The sad thing is the menatlity of people in Chicago. They are jaded by what the media tells them about guns. Hopefully that will change, and more responsible citizens will begin carrying

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. Gun control nuts are gonna have a hard time explaining the sudden drop in crime when the gangs on the west and south side start getting shot by law abiding citizens with the right to carry.

Doubt it.
The media will come up with a story like "Chicago becomes more progressive with xyz reform that has nothing to do with more leniant gun laws....oh and btw, GUNS ARE BAD"
Then all the idiots will believe.
The Chicago Tribune ran an article demonizing AR-15s where they included a picture of the front sling adapter and said "this is where you attatch the grenade launcher". I would put money on the fact they gained gun grabbers from the ignorance/misinformation they spewed in that article.
