Hey guys, just a few quick questions:

I have a guerilla tank, Identical to the one pictured here:

My questions, the lacquer finish has a fine crack in it (mind you, I have yet to play with the tank - only filled it a couple times for repairing markers & testing).

The crack is not huge, only about a 1.5" hairline crack that runs vertical in the middle of the tank. There is a slight bulge around the crack, as if the tank expanded when filled.

Is this safe to play with?

Will it pass a hydro test? (From previous history of these types of cracks)

I have searched the forums and only found answers from 2009&2010 that stated as long as the fibre is not unrapping everything is fine.

Thoughts?

I have just come across some more recent articles from Ninja tanks with a gel coating. The ninja rep stated everything is fine.

I am still not 100% sure that this applies to my tank as guerilla uses a hard shell coating and there is a definitive crack in the finish.

Not entirely true, but the idea is there.

You will want to carefully inspect the crack. Make sure you cannot see or feel the fibers of the tank. If you can see or feel the fibers DO NOT USE THE TANK until it is hydrotested for safety and assurance. Speaking from experience I know Ninja can do spot fixes on their systems, but I am not certain if GA can or not so you should contact them or post in their tech thread for more info.

Thanks for the replies. I will post a picture of the crack tonight for some further clarification. I know I cant feel the fibers due to how small the crack is, but I haven't inspected thoroughly enough to try and see the fibers.

I will also post in the GA thread to see their thoughts.

It's strange because the black is different around the cracked area and it doesn't seem like it fits in with the gel coating being damaged. It almost seems like somebody tried to reapply something or color it in.
Is this a used tank or a new tank?

I would go by what a rep says at this point. That mismatched coloring raises a flag with me.

Alright thanks for the thoughts. After looking at the crack under better light - I can indeed see the fibers through the crack.

That being said I do not see any unraveling on the label portion of the tank (where hydro/luxfer/ tank info is shown).

Looks like someone tried to cover it up before being sold. Cracks that develop due to a defective gel coat will not get that weird black color around the crack.

I would highly recommend contacting the manufacturer to see what they can do to warranty it for you.

Additionally, contact whichever company you bought that from. Let them know that you were shipped a cracked tank.
