Broken Breech Rod

Anyone got any ideas on removing a broken breech rod? Right hand side.. Here's a picture. Thing won't even budge. I'm thinking I may have to drill it and tap it for a small screw?

If that's my only option anyone have any idea what size drill bit/tap I might need? I'm not one that knows that kinda **** off the top of my head. :-\

Also, not my gun, it's a teammates.

How in the hell did that happen. Damn butchers. you can try grinding a dental pick down and use it to leverage it back from the side tube. You could also take a razor blade and grip it with pliers and try to slide between breech door to get to the exposed rod and try to slowing work it back.

Not sure how it happened. I was handed the gun last weekend to clean/tune/fix.

I've tried shoving a pretty sharp oring pick inbetween the rod and the body to kind of wiggle it loose and I'm not getting ANY movement at all. It's pretty ****ed :-\

Have you tried applying heat, while trying any of the fixes listed above?

Not yet. I'm out in the cold at the field currently. Though I won't have access to a heatgun for awhile anyway.

What a pain!

You can try and remove the breech rods(front and rear) On the left side. And with a little luck, you might be able to swing the breech to the right and foward away from the damaged rod. From there just tap with a small hammer, once the rod has sunk into the body, just use a stainless rod to further tap through. I use a bike spoke which is flexible enoung to clear the front of the body. Good luck.

know anybody with a lot of suction?

to knock it loose, try popping the pin about 6 to 10 times with a spring loaded center punch. then try to lever it out with a nail or flat blade screw driver.

you can always try a screw extractor... or taking out all the components and running WD40 down that tube.

you could use a finish nail punch and a hammer to back it out from the breech side.

I'd use an actual penetrating oil instead of WD-40. I like liquid wrench because it's fairly cheap and works better than PB blaster without smelling like all hell.

If the breach is shut and the pin is forward locking the breach, how are you going to hammer from breach side?

Yes, easiest and safest solution is to just remove both breech pivot pins. You can then remove breech and knock out broken lock pin.

I agree... so long as you can actually remove the pivot pins.

Be prepared for the "how do i remove the breach pin?" thread followed by the "i snapped the screws off in the breach pin" thread. Problems with the pins is always fun times.

put the angel in a drill press so the back of the marker is oriented upward. Drill a small hole into the pin. Use try and find a small tap and thread it for a small screw. Put a small stainless steel screw from the hardware store in there and pull straight outward (not at an angle, if you vector the force left or right you risk snapping the screw off)

I will say that in a pinch(keep in mind that I do have a full machine shop) you can remove two of the three pins and just grab the breech and twist it off, bending the last pin the the process. I have removed them in this manner. It's not fancy but it can work in a pinch if things just don't go your way. The pins are mild steel and do bend fairly easily. The risk is that the roto breech cracks, but if you are out of options this method can work. I say this more as a last resort...but I have personally saved Angels in this very manner. I've ended up with a few real BEATERS where I've had little to risk and have used this method.
