Picking out a barrel

Hey guys, I'm currently using my stock barrel with the axe and I would like to upgrade, I've seen somethings on here and I kinda like the deadlywind fibur( the new one actually, the fibur X) with freak inserts, 14" of course, does anyone know if that is a good brand? If not can you suggest something better?

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place.

Get a barrel in each size .678 and .684. Easily one of the best barrels I've ever used.

I have the .678, that thing is tight. Sometimes a little too tight on fragile paint.

Yes the Deadlywind is a great barrel. I'm a fan of the freak insert system. It's like having 8+ barrels in one.

I run the DW with the freak on my AXE. It's awesome very accurate and lightweight, seemed like it quieted it up a bit. As for the freak inserts, they are a good buy because as the weather changes you can use different bores.

In what regard? Quantitatively they have been proven to be some of the most efficient barrels on the market, couple that with their copious porting, light weight and low cost and I see no basis to the claim.

While you may have had good results with yours, others may not. As we know, no two markers are exactly the same, same goes for barrels.

Buddha, I want you to think about this, damn near (not all) insert barrels are based off the Freak design because its a proven system. I use a Freak, so the DW Fibur should work just as well until you scratch the inside. Carbon Fiber barrels are lighter and quieter then just about anything out their, but once they get scratched inside them, the accuracy/consistency starts to go downhill fast.

i have an older DW fiber and really like it. they are pricey though. + inserts.

granted i havent used anything other than a .682 or .684 in about 3 years....you could just as easily buy yourself 1 barrel in that size and be good.

fyi the quality of paint you use will make a bigger difference on accuracy than your barrel. unless your just wanting a smaller bore to squeeze as much effeciency as you can out of your gun, you wont really notice anything.

This is idiotic. What exactly do you think a barrel can affect? Accuracy? Nope. Trajectory? Except apex and flatline nope again. So what can a barrel affect? Noise and efficiency (from under boring and the right length control bore). That said barrel results don't vary.

Clean it and inspect for damage. Barrels don't blend paint if properly sized.

lurker barrels are amazing.. as blueshifty said if you are having problems clean it and make sure there is no damage... if there is damage that appears to be a defect pm lurker and send it to him. he has great cs. for the record i hated my deadly winds barrel.. i do love my freak kit it has a stiffi tip and is great.. a barrel no one mentioned is the furious barres. i use my furious .685 bore on my vice and it shoots great and is very very quiet

HAHA ok, just like your DP marker shot just like/better than a luxe.

Have you ever even used a Lurker barrel?

I see it was a paint blender you stated? Do you know how to check the bore of a paintball? Or did you just screw in a .678 and throw some paint through it? Break some balls and then blame the barrel.

So many times I have seen posters here and elsewhere say that barrels don't really affect accuracy. So that just leaves sound, weight, length choice, price, and looks. I guess pick one that you like. It only matters what you like.

Look at the responses you have above. They are all over the place.

This is a topic that never will be answered with a difinitive Best Choice. Even the freak insert barrels have no real tests anyone trusts that say they are better.

This seems to be a question that only you can answer for yourself. Take suggestions, but it is really about what you are willing to take a chance on and like.

This is spot on and is the point I was trying to make. Bore matching and a proper length control bore can also affect efficiency. Other than that it is preference.

I forgot the efficieny issue good point. Man I wish we could just say buy this barrel it works the best for everyone. But that is just not the case. I think Barrel technology is much better today, than when I started (1989). But it does seem that most mfg's are on a par with each other. It does seem this really is about what each of us likes. Great that we have many choices. Maybe a little confusing for your first after market barrel.

I think one approch is the golf bag approach. You might want a few different ones for certain situations. Add them over time. Good reason to go with AC thread guns. Collect them over time, and maybe try a friends barrel before you buy. I wish the Gun mfg's would get on board here. And pick a thread.

As long as your paint and gun are clean I would loan a player a barrel at the chrony range to try on his gun.

PS. don't toss that stock barrel, you might find it really is not that bad.

Actually, that one of one modded F8 I had shot amazing, but it broke like most DP guns do... so with that said I would much rather have a Luxe then DP going forward.

And If you check my BST history you will see that I sold my Eigenbarrel.
