Yo Andrew, I live in Los Banos, about an hour from Rhino and Fresno, I'm down to test for you as well. Also, the idea of a cone shaped ARB is utilized by the ION as well, with Deadly Wind's newest version of the Hollow Point Bolt. I think the cone shaped ARB is gonna be very nice, good one Andrew.

Lol, so I guess I'm gonna have to make a bunch after all.

Tell you what, let me get this one up and running, and I'll see how more might fit into my schedule. I'm also going to have to get some stock for full guides if I decide to go that route; I've just got some 5/8 rod right now.

Before we all get our hopes up, I won't have time to do this for a while. Gotta let the school workload cool off a bit before I dive into these. The one I did was just a quick proof of concept for myself, and it's just the guide rod without the back cap because I really like my Hybrid bolt guide, and want to keep that back cap on my Shocker. Doing full guides will happen, just not for a while.

Looks good but you might wanna take down the diameter a little just past the front guide o-ring like in the picture in your first post.

The base of the cone is .385, just .01 bigger than the 3/8 arb some people are already using. I didn't have .385 in mind, that's just what it ended up being. The ID of the Eigenbolt is .500, so I think it'll be fine. I'll do some shooting with it as it is, and take the cone down a bit more to see if anything changes though.

You should make a few prototypes to test different cones designs. You could have grooves to help guide the air like this one:

[Looks like I cannot link to thin air sports, but its basically grooves that go parallel to the cone]

But I'd be more interested if you tested a spiral cone(like a screw) to give the air a little spin.. Not sure if that would translate into a performance(maybe give a slight spin to the ball?) gain or not.

I don't recall a grooved version of the 4B, perhaps you were looking at this pic?

But the cone on the Shocker guide is already so small compared to the one on the 4B kit, so I'd have less room to play around. We'll see though.

Yeah, those are just grease trails from the airflow through the slots in the bolt. The Eigenbolt does the same thing

With that said, I believe the merits of a better flowing ARB, like what's on the 4B kit outweigh the merits of a pure devolumizer ARB. It's not so much about the air dispersing, it can do that just fine with a normal guide or one with an ARB. The point of the cone is to reduce that flat front edge on the ARB, basically making the transition between valve and paintball smoother, as well as taking up some volume. If volume was the key, then they could have just made a big cylinder on the end of the 4B guide, but they did the cone because the resultant flow of air was more beneficial.

*Edit - Just did a quick job on the lathe, and didn't want to double post. I'm going to hit it up for some slots to complete the NDZ style LP part of the guide tomorrow, then I'm going to lop off the guide part on the back cap, and attach it to the back cap much like how ccluff2's homemade adjustable guide fits the guide and backcap together.

When you make that guide low pressure, you can switch to a cone drill bit, slightly smaller than the arb cone, when you drill to the front oring. Use that to drill into the arb cone. That way the cone itself will be hollow and you get more volume. Not only would it outperform the NDZ LP bolt guide because of the arb, but then you could boast more volume.

That would be one long drill bit, but I don't think the volume gained from that would be worth it to deal with drilling it out.

Haven't managed to get time in to finish the guide yet unfortunately, so it'll be a few days before it's done and I can shoot with it since my weekend is already taken up.

You could thread the cone if you wanted and make different lengths, wouldn't gain a whole lot of volume. I wouldn't sell it that way tho

I might do that for testing different cone styles though. But, like I said earlier, the cone is so small any grooves or special shapes might not have as big an effect as they would on something like the G4 back cap or Geo 2 propshaft. It'll probably end up being just a simple cone.
