Hey guys. I am in the market for a dm12. I hold one and wow it felt so nice in the hands. Truthfully I am leaving towards a dm12. But am also looking at macdevs clones. I am stuck between the two since I read about DM's reliability and them not liking cold or wet weather. Is this true? Right not I have a vice which I have not had any issues with. I hate seeing people at the fields day being over when their gun is broken down. I do keep good care of my stuff and my guns.
Please try to be unbiased
Any gun is susceptible to water, and as far as cold weather goes, all that needs to be done is some tweaking of some settings. Bumping up your LPR and dwell will allow cold weather use just fine.
I don't want to be "that" guy but I hated mine. It would chop paint like butter if it was even chilly out side! There's also many o-rings compared to like a geo. in my opinion go with planet eclipse all the way. They are so Reliable and once broken in they can shoot amazing!!
truthfully... i hate changing settings of my guns. i never have good luck with doing this.
the problem is i went to my proshop and they dont sell macdev... so i got no input from them about their guns... they sell dm so he was pushing the dm.
all i want is something that isnt going to break down on me in the middle of a game from cold weather (12*C= 54*F) the coldest to play outside. and QUIET QUIET
Dm's are reliable if you know how to maintain them. Dye also has a great customer service.
Macdev Clones are great guns as well, but Macdev's customer service is horrific.
Both are about the same maintenance wise as the clone bolt is more complex then the dm's, but the dm has a lpr.
If you know how to (or even take the time to learn) the tuning and maintenance process the dm's WILL be reliable for you. So I wouldn't avoid them because of these "reliability rumors"

If 54 degrees is the coldest you will be playing in, then you have nothing to worry about. Its more about keeping your paint warm.
We won a 3 man last november in Michigan and it was about 20 degrees all morning. My pm7 shot flawless.
im more of a rec player, so i dont go play in the rain or snow--- im a spring summer guy.
i dont mind taking my gun apart after every time using it at the feild and cleaning it and lubing it. thats not an issue for me... treat it well and it will treat you well.
now i have people leading to to the geo's
there are so many guns out there... they all do the same thing... i remember when i had my autococker in 2k3 and i saw a dm4 shooting and it was SOOO quiet.. thats all i want is quiet, i play bush quite a bit and something that shoots nice and quiet is what i want.
it seems like its all preference and people either hate or love a brand.
i see alot of clones, dm's and geos for sale... majority of those sellers are looking to switch to another brand.
ive had a good run with my vice, never chopped a ball, never had an issue with it... i just want to switch to a spool and their quietness
Geos and Dm's are going to be on the more quiet side. Especially DM's. Spools are nice and quiet. Also, have you considered an Axe? They are a poppet design but are also very quiet, and crazy reliable. I have been shooting my Axe over my DM9 lately.
And just so you know, most people are gun whores, and buy sell trade even if they are 100% satisfied with their current guns.
Both my dm12s were reliable, but if you neglect them like any gun itll go down faster than if you take care of em. I prefer my 2.1 over the 12s ive owned. .02
I bet you won't ever have an issue with a DM if you do the following:
1) Keep the LPR/Dwell settings stock
2) Clean/lube the bolt after each day of play
3) Wipe the gun down after each day of play thoroughly
4) Make sure you have a fresh battery
Steps 2 and 3 take me maybe 20 mins every Sunday night with a cold beer - my gun works flawlessly. A little TLC goes a long way to making sure you have an enjoyable weekend.
Oh that's no issue. Like you said. Cold beer and lube it up.
Change the orings ever so often since orings are cheap. I'd rather change them than run into issues at the field.
How do you tune the DM's? Have to buy pressure gauges ?
I'm not trying to insult anyone, that was just my impression.
If they removed the sharp edges and put in the bolt you mentioned stock and lightened it up on the back end somehow, it'd be much more interesting to me.
My impression was that it was very much like an emag in both weight and function, with sharp edges all over the trigger area.
The recoil impulse was very strong as well, I'm not sure if the bolt you mention sorts that out.
