Are 1K+ guns really worth it?
I love paintball, but do not play in tournaments or anything competitively, just for fun. I love owning my own gun because I like to upgrade if worth it and like taking care of something of my own, plus what you own is usually better than any rental you get.
So is getting a 1000 dollar marker really any better than just a $500-$600? Whether poppet or spoolie?
Reason I ask is because I am trying to decide mainly to get a 1000 dollar gun, or start collecting guns from newer mid range companies, to help spread the word of them and try out something different not many people no about.
Example being I can get a Demon, Luxe, Geo, etc... or get an Alien Invasion, and then get whatever is released by J4 Paintball after PBE is over.
Thoughts?

Huh... I haven't heard prices yet but would assume they'd be smart and start off mid range unlike Machine who started out pretty rough due to their $1650 price...

Anyway. If your comparing something like an invasion to a 1000+ gun (g6r, ego11) then yea IMO the 1000+ gun is worth it

In the past there was a tremendous gap in performance and costs, but with guns like the axe, proton and drone we are starting to see cheaper markers that have high end performance.

Try an axe. It is by far the best gun. WHEN you take I. Account the price
This is my opinion

In my opinion, the Axe is far from the best gun and if efficiency isn't an issue I'd suggest a Proton over an Axe.

I am not asking anything about axes... I get it, tons of people say to get them over most other mid end guns, but I am trying to figure out why buy something 1K+ when you can get a mid end that performs the same and sometimes better? Other than possibly the Luxe 2.0, Vanguard Demon, and Clone GT being the only guns I can see someone paying that much for, and even then, it's a lot.

It's pretty much the same logic as to why someone would buy a Hyundai genesis over a new Mercedes

I've not noticed an increase in performance in anything since about 2004, mostly just got smaller and lighter.

Regardless of any pros of a 1000+ gun, the resale value of all of them will plummet once the next world cup roles around. Meanwhile, the drop in value of a "midrange" will generally be minimal.
Performance wise, no difference. Milling will be lighter, parts will be no more/less quality, with the exception of a few true low end guns that might use plastic.
A 2K5 timmy will perform exactly like a Geo 3, if not better. An Invasion will perform like a Luxe, if not better. They will all shoot a .68 caliber paintball at 280FPS at 12.5BPS w/ reasonable efficiency and consistency. You are paying for name and lighter/cooler milling.
On a more revealing note, look at the spool platform that every $1000+ gun uses (exception EGO). According to Jack Rice at Alien (granted he is biased), spools are much cheaper to produce than poppit markers. Not saying poppits are better than spools, but when you look at the bandwagon mentality that seems to have sprung up over spools lately, it is easy to see why a company can make a cheap to manufacture spool marker then turn around and sell it at a massive markup.
Ask around in specific gun forums. Witness the history of certain manufacturers compared to others. You will come to your own conclusion.
No, $1000+ markers are not worth it. It is name and popularity. To make good on Bump Pitch's analogy, you always will hear "Hondas and Hyundais and Kias run forever", not so for the BMers and Mercedes.

Don't ever buy a new high end gun. It makes no sense, considering that the same guns from 3 years ago shoot exactly the same. True for Planet Eclipse and Dye. Look at 08 and 09 egos or DM's.

Buy older Private Label guns, only because if later you want to try to recoup some cash they will hold value better than the $1600 marker that sells for $800 2 mths after it comes out.
