Editing software

What software do you all you to edit your videos? I am planning on getting an R7 720p soon. Wanted to learn how to do some fairly minor editing and the basics. If someone could post up some basics and things to help me out that would be great!

Vegas is basically a really well priced version of premiere that doesn't have half of the fancy **** you'll never use like prem does.

editing systems: Avid, Final Cut Pro, Dalet, Vegas, Windows Movie Maker, IMovie, Adobe

If you can get your hands on a Final Cut Express for mac the old addition (i believe it is the V4 edition) you have the best one for a reduced price.

Adobe also has premiere CS2 up for free download from their site, but they've asked politely not to download it unless you already own it.

I agree with paintballer3, you have home grade and professional grade.

iMovie, Windows Movie Maker are low end, comes with computer editors. Does the basic Cut, trim, transition and all the main parts of it.

Mid level would be Vegas and Final Cut X, they include more codec and more formats for you to edit from and into. Something more of a science, basically recording from film, video and digital are the differences. They have more transitions and stuff like that.

At the high end you'll have Adobe Premier/Suite and AVID and Final Cut Pro 7. These are some what film/video industry standard. They are used to make money and cost quiet alot of get your hands on, almost as much as a brand new ego/geo. They offer all types of codecs/formats, including making your own transitions and even have audio editing to an extent.

So the question is how much time/money do you have to invest in this hobby. As well a content you shoot, **** in, is still **** out. LOL my favorite phrase, its not usually about the tools you use, its how you use what you have. I've done editing on Windows Movie Maker and got great reviews from it and I've done edits on FCP/Premier and got ****ted on.

So if you have any more questions about this, send me a PM. I would be more than happy to answer your questions. I've had 4 years of camera/editing experience.

I use vegas movie studio platinum (version 10) but I can't recommend it as I keep getting the black screen error and Sony's customer service is completely non existent.

Really frustrating.

I was a beta tester for the original non-linear edit systems back in the early 90's. A bunch of the buttons on the Avid I pushed them to add to the system. It is amazing what you can do now for super cheap. When I was selling editing systems, a conventional system would run $250,000... And a digital editing system was $75,000 to $100,000. Today, you can do more with a $300 laptop and a $100 edit suite than those systems did back then.

Which is one of the reasons I started making videos. It was just so cheap and you could turn out some amazing stuff.

Nice buddy. I starting freelancing Sophmore year in college, starting making decent money at in my senior year. That moment was amazing since i finally quite my college food prep job.

Find some small production company doing stupid videos (I did alot of a high school football games) that pay some money, and start padding your resume.

I am trying to teach myself graphic design now, so i can Freelance that too, but man it is hard.

I personally use FCP 7. Love it.

Do you own any equipemnt?
